Description

At Dublin Animal Hospital, the veterinary technicians and assistants play a big role in supporting their doctors through routine appointments, sick visits, and with nursing care of hospitalized patients.

Expectations:

This is a full-time position with flexibility to work during regular business hours and on a rotation of Saturdays. We expect our Veterinary Assistants to have a productive and positive outlook on communication and teamwork, with a focus in helping our clients and patients have a favorable experience. Exercises good judgment of skills and responsibilities to maintain a safe and harmonious work environment. Growth and development in the field is encouraged and will be rewarded with greater responsibility. Reports to the Practice Manager.

Responsibilities include (Level 1):

Assisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with daily technician appointmentsAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants by safely restraining patients for technician appointments and examinationsAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants in execution and preparations of in-house and reference labworksAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants by filling and refilling medications and food(s) that have been approved by a doctorAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with daily housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitizing proceduresAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with grooming and bathing servicesAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with unpacking, tagging, and reporting inventory needsMaintaining clean and orderly workspaces for all staff, including assistance with breaking down surgical and dental suits, and kennel areasAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with routine blood drawsAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants with daily walking and urine or fecal collection as directedAssisting the Veterinary Technicians and Assistants in treatment with hourly rounds and patient care and treatments as directedAssisting the team with completing monthly and weekly cleaning and maintenance protocolsCompleting daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance checklistsKeeping premises clean and tidy, including picking up feces and trash, watering flowers and plants, and keeping walkways cleanPerforming baths (regular and medicated) for boarded pets and drop-off bathsThoroughly cleaning and drying each bathing guest and following specific bathing instructions for each guestCleaning and maintaining an organized and sanitary bathing area, including cleaning and sanitizing entire tub and runs/cages between guestsWalking hospitalized patients as directed by the medical team and patient's treatment sheet.Collecting urine and feces when indicated or directed by the medical teamCleaning up walking areas and discarding of urine, vomit, and feces appropriatelyWalking boarded guests up to four times daily when boarded overnightProviding fresh water for boarded and hospitalized patients (unless directed otherwise)Providing food as appropriate and directed by medical team for boarded guests and hospitalized patientsMaintaining clean and organized work areas, including the cleaning closet and laundry roomsPerforming laundry (sort, wash, dry, fold, re-stock) as neededMaintaining clean kennels and cages of all boarded and hospitalized patients as soiled. Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting cages, holding areas, and runs after each patient/guest leavesWorking with the medical team to ensure a good flow of patient care and cleaning dutiesSpecific responsibilities (level 2):

Assigned roles include room assistant, pharmacy technician, lab technician, technician assistant (in surgery) or "float"Demonstrating competency in basic venipuncture on well mannered patients. Cephalic on dogs, medial saphenous on cats, and jugular draws on dogs.Positioning and restraining for radiographs (general) under direction of the doctorPerforming more advanced technique with restraint of fractious or sensitive patientsAssisting as the pharmacy technician to refill medications and foodsPreparing and breaking down surgical areasAssisting in anesthetic monitoring by recording and transcribing monitoring information and relaying patient vitalsObtaining patient vitals including heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, mentation.Performing technician appointments including anal gland expression, nail trims, dremels, etc.Appropriately updating templates and inputting information accuratelyCreating written prescriptions and RX OUTS for medications not filled in houseAssisting the doctor with euthanasia appointments and preparing and baking paw printsRunning in house 4DX and FelV/FIV tests. Running urinalysis on the correct program. Interpreting results to know if bacterial confirmation or additional testing is needed.Printing labwork from Vet Connect Plus and appropriately assigning to doctor bin. Locating errors and troubleshooting to ensure all lab results are collected and relayed to client.Opening treatment proceduresClosing treatment proceduresAdministering subcutaneous injections and intranasal administration of vaccines under the direction of the doctor.
