NBC News is seeking an experienced communications professional and leader to join its Emmy-awarding winning bureau in Washington, DC. This role will lead and develop strategic communication strategies for NBC News’ political team, the network’s DC bureau, as well as
Meet the Press with Kristen Welker.The Director will also work with the NY-based NBC News Communications team on various projects across the network’s TV, digital & streaming platforms, including events, special reports and breaking news.The role requires strategic planning, critical thinking, strong experience in media relations and crisis communications, excellent written and verbal skills and a strong interest in news (especially politics), media and public relations. This role reports into the Senior Vice President of Communications for NBC News.Note:
This position is based in Washington, DC with frequent travel opportunities to New York and elsewhere.Responsibilities:Serve as a communications strategist and advisor for DC-based talent, executives, programs and political unit.Develop and implement communication strategies for crisis and reputation management, as well as PR strategies for election coverage,

and NBC News’ politics team.Provide strategic communication counsel to talent and executives.Lead publicity efforts for news-making interviews, exclusive stories, political reporting, debates, special breaking news coverage and enterprise reporting.Manage execution of D.C.-based NBC News events, including the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.Collaborate with the New York-based NBC News PR team on various projects across the network’s TV, digital & streaming platforms, including special reports and breaking news.Foster and maintain strong contacts with print, digital, and trade media.Qualifications
Minimum 8 years of relevant media relations and communications experience, political experience strongly preferred.Proven and effective media strategist.Excellent leadership skills, experience with overseeing a direct report.Excellent news judgment and communication skills, both written and verbal.Strong experience with crisis communications and working with high-level executives.Willingness to travel, work on weekends and beyond regular hours.Strong relationships with journalists throughout media and politics.Ability to exercise a high level of discretion in handling talent, confidential and sensitive information.Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news.Desired Characteristics:Excellent writing skills.Ability to work in fast-paced environment and meet crucial deadlines.Robust understanding of and enthusiasm for the media industry and politics.Experience in government or media is a strong plus.A team player with experience managing multiple clients.Exemplary organization and time management skills.Hybrid:
This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.Able to work in Washington, D.C.This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
