Overview
Dartmouth Health is seeking a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurocritical Care team.
Overview:
Join our team of 10 Advanced Practice Providers, who, in conjunction with the Neurocritical Care Attending Physicians, directly manage the clinical care of critically ill neurologic and neurosurgical patients in our 10-bed Neurocritical Care Unit. DHMC is certified by the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Our NCCU patients have a wide range of diagnoses including complex strokes, intracerebral hemorrhages, subarachnoid hemorrhages, status epilepticus, skull base surgery, tumor resection, neuromuscular respiratory failure and other neurological emergencies
Responsibilities include:
Providing direct management for critically ill adult patients with multi-system failure, utilizing evidence-based practice
Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations and document
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare learners
Interface patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment and directs and educates others in performing the same functions
Perform admissions to and transfers out of the Neuro ICU
Formulate and implement a treatment plan for acute illness management
Assess patients for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient
Participate and assist with the pre-, peri-, and postoperative management of the patients admitted to the ICU
Communicating and collaborating with our colleagues in Neurosurgery, Vascular Neurology, General Neurology, Epilepsy, Hospital Medicine
Perform bedside procedures including central lines, arterial lines, and lumbar punctures
Management of EVDs and ICP monitors
Block scheduling with 13-hour shifts; rotating days/nights
Closed ICU managed by Neurocritical Care Attending Physicians and APPs
No outpatient clinical responsibilities, no call requirements
New graduates and experienced providers are welcome to apply
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA academic program
National certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner; or Certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Eligible for RN licensure in the State of NH (APRNs only)
Eligible for APRN or PA licensure in the State of NH
Eligible for Federal DEA Registration
