Sr. Accountant

Responsible for the day-to-day accounting and reporting activities for Atlantic Health System and the affiliated foundations. The role will monitor an effective system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, reimbursement, and regulations and mitigate risk over the organization’s assets. The role reports directly to the Manager of System Accounting and Foundations and will work collaboratively with the Manager of System Accounting and Foundations for the other System subsidiaries and combined entities.
Principal Accountabilities:
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual System financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and supporting notes. Ensure these reports are accurate, timely, and compliant with standard accounting principles.
Manage the monthly close process of The Foundation for Morristown Medical Center. Assist in the close process for the Newton Medical Center Foundation, Chilton Medical Center Foundation, and Hackettstown Medical Center Foundation
Responsible for the monthly close process of ASAHSent AHS, Atlantic Urgent Cares and CentraState Healthcare System (“CSHS”), coordinate with the other leaders of the remaining system entities to ensure timely and accurate intercompany accounts are reconciled, including the quarterly recording of AHS Insurance Co., Ltd (the “Captive”).
Build and maintain strong relationships with the financial leaders at CSHS to ensure timely reconciliation of intercompany accounts and general ledger tie-out and upload.
Assist in System entities’ budgets as deemed necessary.
Responsible for assisting in managing the relationship with external auditors and coordinating and overseeing the annual external audits for all System entities, including the preparation of the Atlantic Health System, Inc. consolidated financial statements.
Assist in the audits of The Foundation for Morristown Medical Center, Newton Medical Center Foundation, Chilton Medical Center Foundation, and Hackettstown Medical Center Foundation performed by PwC and Withum.
Assist in the CSHS audit performed by E&Y.
Assist with maintenance of the General Ledger, CoA, and reporting under the new Oracle system.
Participate in preparing the Atlantic Health System's external reports for various entities, including NJHA, Apollo, AHA, Modern Healthcare, etc.
Communicate with foundation leaders and external stakeholders, participating in the Audit and/or Finance committees as assigned.
Build strong relationships with external peers and professional organizations, including statutory organizations, to leverage knowledge and network.
Ad-hoc requests, as needed.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree Required. Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Preferred:
CPA
Experience with foundation accounting
Experience in accounting of large complex organization with 3+ years progressive experience preferably in healthcare or not-for-profit industries.
Proactive, collaborative, and able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Competencies:
Proficient in accounting software, preferably Oracle.
Exceptional math skills, critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Possess superior analytical skills with good reasoning and judgement a must.
Must be able to multi-task well and take appropriate action.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as interpersonal skills.
Advanced level Excel skill set.
In depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Experience in conducting complex long-term projects and meeting strict timelines.
