Job Description:GDIT is seeking a Bioanalytical Scientist with
strong expertise in mass spectrometry
to support the Walter Reed Army institute of Research’s Experimental Therapeutics Branch. This position will support the research, and any activities needed to most efficiently advance lead candidate drugs to the next level of testing and ultimately FDA approval.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Develop and validate analytical methods for the identification of candidate new drugs and putative metabolites using LC-MS/MS instruments including XL LTQ (Thermo Fisher l
inear ion trap mass spectrometer
and TQ-MS (Waters)
tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer.Conduct in vitro and in vivo biological samples analysis using LC-MS/MS instruments, and process and collect raw data from mass spectrometry instruments.Conduct in vitro assays using TeCan Liquid Handling systems and Spectromax plate reader.Assist with the characterization of metabolites formation and metabolic profiles of candidate drugs using mass spectrometric analysis as needed.Conduct LC-MS/MS analysis for samples from liver microsomes and hepatocytes extract to assess for potential metabolism-based drug-drug interactions involving hepatic CYP450 enzymes.Conduct daily and weekly routine maintenance and troubleshoot for HPLC and mass spectrometry systems, a robotic liquid handling system (TeCan Auto sampler), and basic biology and pharmacology laboratory equipment.Prepare biological samples for analysis using methods to include tissue homogenization, blood spot filter puncture, and solvent extraction as needed.Conduct ELISA assays in support of pharmacokinetic and biomarker studies as needed.Perform chemical derivatization reactions when required for analyte detection.Assist in manual tasks including, but not limited to, filling liquid nitrogen dewars and tanks for use in laboratory operations, biohazard disposal, and acquisition/return of gas tanks from the logistics facility.Maintain appropriate data records and notebooks.Assist in chemical and supply inventories and laboratory organization as requested.Assist with the initiation and tracking of purchase request, and service calls through Medical Maintenance Branch.Comply with all specified guidelines regarding safety, security, standard operating procedures, written protocols, technical manuals, and procurement of supplies/equipment as per WRAIR regulations.Required:
BS in Analytical Chemistry, Biology, or related field with relevant bioanalytical coursework2+ years of hands-on experience in analytical chemistryWorking knowledge of HPLC analysis and familiarity with the handling of biological samples.Experience with Mass SpectrometryExperience with basic MS Office (or compatible) software for generating reports and summaries for presentations, managing data spreadsheets, requesting supplies and materiel as needed to perform general laboratory maintenance.Experience with metabolism related studies, along with troubleshooting and basic maintenance of mass spectrometry equipment.Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as good written and oral communication.Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a favorable NACI T1 security investigation.

The likely salary range for this position is $88,275 - $89,700. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
