*JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY*
The *Program Director* is responsible for the overall management of the Islands Hospice programs on Maui to include staffing, general program administration, program and contract performance, fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and community relations. Maui’s programs include inpatient care and home care. This position is under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director.

*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES*
1. Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospice program to ensure high quality patient care.
2. Manages a mobile workforce as well as those that operate in an IPU facility. Supervises and oversees staffing to ensure adherence to standards of care as prescribed by ACHC, law, and policy.
3. Ensures that the IPU facility operates in accordance with federal, state, and professional standards and regulations, maintaining licenses and certification.
4. Oversees accurate medical and general business recordkeeping and efficient operation of support services.
5. Projects hospice philosophy to staff, patients, families, and the community at large.
6. Communicates effectively with patients and families to ensure they are satisfied with the services provided.
7. Consults with supervisory staff to set goals for facility, and monitors staff performance and progress toward reaching goals.
8. Provides guidance to Maui team members to assist them in continually improving all aspects of hospice care services.
9. Assists Director of Clinical Service(s) and Director of Clinical Services Assistant(s) in managing clinical teams and day-to-day program planning.
10. Assists in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated.
11. Assists the Executive Director/Administrator in the preparation and administration of the organization's budget as directed.
12. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues, or expenses.
13. Evaluates performance of Director of Clinical Services and/or Director of Clinical Services Assistant as directed/indicated by the Executive Director/Administrator.
14. Evaluates the performance, clinical skills, and techniques of Maui program clinicians.
15. Hires, evaluates, and terminates organization personnel as needed and directed by the Executive Director/Administrator.
16. Conduct evaluations of personnel and clinicians annually or more frequently if indicated.
17. Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities.
18. Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
19. Responsible for the maintenance of adequate and appropriate inventory supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.
20. Conducts, updates, and evaluates new hire orientation for Maui program hires/personnel, directly or delegated.
21. May develop, plan and shall implement in-service and continuing education programs to meet the education and training needs of organization personnel.
22. Assists with the evaluation of organization performance via performance improvement program, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews. Assures for the quality and safe delivery of hospice services provided through Maui’s program operations.
23. Assists in the development of organization goals. May develop – and shall administer, organization policies and procedures for Maui program operations.
24. Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of organization personnel and maintains compliance with the ACHC hospice standards.
25. Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing, hospice care, and local market, and shares information with appropriate organization personnel.
26. Participates in marketing activities to promote the hospice program within the community, and hospice referrals in the Maui health care community.
27. Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.
*POSITION QUALIFICATIONS*
1. Master’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or related field with 3+ years of experience in hospice, home health, or other related health care operations management.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or related field with 5+ years of experience in hospice, home health, or other related healthcare operations management.
- _Nurse Practitioner preferred._
2. Nursing degree from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing. Certification in hospice preferred.
3. Registered nurse in the State of Hawaii with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State.
4. Proven history of successful business management and leadership with strong understanding of ACHC standards and/or state and federal regulations governing hospice care.
5. Experience with accreditation and quality improvement processes.
6. Knowledge of hospice (or home care) software systems and applications.
7. Excellent communication – verbal and written, interpersonal, organizational and people skills Integral to success in relating effectively to staff, patients, families, and the community.
8. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
9. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile in good working order that is insured in accordance with the state and/or requirements.
