Our Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) position offers a unique opportunity to dedicate 50% of your time to providing exceptional athletic training services to contracted schools (like St. Gertrude) or teams during games and events. The other 50% of their time will be dedicated for the coordination of care for all Ortho-On-Call clinic patients under direct supervision of physician or advanced practice provider, as it relates to Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and will interact across the enterprise in order to facilitate necessary services. This position will directly report to the Ortho-On-Call Operations Manager. Join us in making a direct impact on athlete performance and wellness.
Primary Functions & AccountabilitiesProvide a high-level of medical service including, but not limited to, emergency care, prevention, assessment, referrals, treatment, and rehabilitation to athletes.Ensure emergency readiness at all sanctioned practices and events.Provide effective written and oral communication between athletes, coaches, sports performance staff, administrators, as well as, the multi-disciplinary medical team regarding status and progress of athletes.Maintain athlete confidentiality of team physician treatments plans and medical records.Other athletic training administrative duties as assigned.Clinic duties will include assisting physician(s) with patient care pertaining to DME in our Ortho-On-Call locations.Responsible for all DME related vendor management, purchasing and inventory for central Ortho-On-Call locationsDistributes DME between central Ortho-On-Call locations in the event of supply shortagesReviews provider charting to ensure correct DME coding is enteredAdjusts encounter coding for DME as neededTrains new clinical team members for competencies on DME fitting and dispensingServes as part-time Athletic Trainer for St. Gertrude school teams and part time with Ortho On Call DME servicesAt all times represents OrthoVirginia while maintaining the highest level of professionalism across all dutiesPosition requires nights and weekends to cover team eventsKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesUnderstand the management of a Durable Medical Equipment program, including measuring and fitting devices, documenting for possible reimbursement, and measuring the value of the product to both the patient and the program.Express understanding of patient education as it relates to post-procedure wound care. Demonstrate appropriate usage of instruments and supplies for wound care and suture / staple removal.Demonstrate the ability to safely apply and remove casts and splints for upper and lower extremities.Determine and respond to patient needs and concerns based on the diagnosis and treatment plan provided. Provide and explain patient education materials and other documentation (excuse notes, restrictions, worker's compensation forms, etc.) in a manner that is understandable to the patient.Demonstrate understanding of basic operating room policies and procedures (sterile vs. non-sterile, scrubbing in, patient positioning, patient transfers, etc.).Position RequirementsCurrent NATABOC certificationValid Virginia state licensure, or eligibleAt least three (3) years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer at a college/university, professional level and/or working with elite athletes.Allow flexibility to work out of all 3 or more locations and nights and weekends to cover team eventsBachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree, preferredPhysical health sufficient to meet the ergonomic standards and demands of the position
