SUNY Cobleskill is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated professional to fill the inaugural position of Licensed School Psychologist and Student Empowerment Coordinator (LSPSEC). Our campus community strives to ensure that our talented students aspire to thrive in college as they progress to degree attainment. As part of this commitment, we expect that this LSPSEC position will broaden the reach and scope of our disabilities office, proactively addressing barriers to student learning, avoiding the need for accommodation, and empowering students in their learning abilities. The unique perspective that a school psychologist can bring to the team is addressing the "silent" barriers to student learning progress, fostering student autonomy and student agency in their own learning. This critical role is not fashioned in the medical model and will not engage in tertiary intervention or diagnosis.

The two central focuses of this role are to, first, utilize state-of-the-art tools to identify issues and develop strategies to assist students who experience learning difficulties before they become insuperable. The second focus, and in concert with the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO), is to educate and provide in-service supports to the SUNY Cobleskill community in the principles of the Universal Design Learning (UDL) model as it applies to creating accessible learning environments for all types of diverse learning styles. The successful candidate will serve as an essential member of the Educational Support Services team, reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, and in collaboration with the Office of AccessABILITY Resources and students who utilize their services.

SUNY Cobleskill is committed to implementing a comprehensive UDL approach, and the LSPSEC will play a central role assisting the CDO in adopting a campus-wide UDL through a primary prevention approach. In particular, the LSPSEC will provide comprehensive support and guidance to faculty in creating syllabi and course materials and requirements that follow the UDL framework. The scope of responsibilities includes working with students to determine barriers to their learning and identify strategies to empower students' capacity to learn and with the assistance of the Learning Strategist, co-creating an UDL model with the CDO with an emphasis on the learning milieu, in collaboration with student-facing offices (Student Development, Wellness, Advising, etc.) implementing interventions and programs and co-creating a culture of student empowerment with the Office of AccessABILITY.

POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:* To co-develop a comprehensive UDL approach with the CDO and the entire Student Support Services unit (Office of AccessABILITY is housed within this unit) with special emphasis on the learning and classroom milieu and provide the necessary workshops and training on how to implement UDL in all academic engagements. This includes but is not limited to the following goals:* To develop and facilitate educational, student learning strategies and programs and workshops on topics associate with learning styles and barriers to the learning process through the UDL lens.* To work with Student Development staff on promotion of self-care, resilience, and healthy coping strategies, and raise awareness about promoting a culture of well-being on campus.* To collaborate with faculty, staff, and other campus resources to provide consultation and guidance on learning-related and ableism issues and provide strategies to promote an UDL- approach to campus culture regarding diverse student learning needs.* To conduct assessments and evaluations for the sole purpose of providing students with knowledge of their learning abilities and to identify student engagement and intervention programs that are not linked to an accommodations process.* To assist students in adopting proactive learning strategies, in concert with the Learning and Retention Specialist based on the assessment outcomes.* To collect data and monitor progress on the identified metrics that measure goal and objective attainment.* To utilize the WEAVE platform to record and use the data to revise when and where necessary.

PERFORMANCE PROFILE:* To help students gain greater insight and understanding, become empowered to manage their learning strategies with further help from the Learning and Retention Strategist, to overcome academic challenges and seek support when necessary.* To be an effective team player and collaborator with the Educational Support Services Team in the Center for Academic Support and Excellence, be a partner with the CDO on UDL work, the Division of Student Development, faculty and other student facing departments in meeting the learning wellbeing of students* To maintain up-to-date expertise as a current practicing Licensed School Psychologist, abiding by New York State, SED licensing criteria, Professional Association regulations and State and professional field ethical guidelines.* To stay adaptable and responsive to the changing needs and demands of the student body, including updates in best practices in higher education as they evolve.* To adhere to ethical guidelines and professional standards of practice outlined by relevant licensing boards and professional organizations. Uphold confidentiality, informed consent, and ethical decision-making in all interactions with students.

*Requirements:*

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:* Current NYS Permanent Certificate as a School Psychologist* Five or more years of experience within a school setting.* Experience working cross-culturally with a diverse clientele/student body, in higher education or other school setting.* A commitment to a primary prevention wellness and Universal Design model.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:* Doctorate in School Psychology or related field and currently licensed as a Psychologist.* Three years of experience in an educational setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
