HVAC Engineer

Major Responsibilities (Level 1):
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
- Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides
- Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards.
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Major Responsibilities (Level 2):
- Evaluates small size projects to include the preparation of original design layouts, details, drawings, and specifications.
- Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides.
- Prepares mechanical engineering reports for clients as required.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
- When delegated, provides guidance to other mechanical engineering personnel for specific tasks or projects.
- Completes mechanical documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering is required.
- 5-10 years of experience producing HVAC Load Calculations, ductwork design, and equipment selection for nuclear HVAC systems.
- Experience developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Ventilation and Instrumentation diagrams, and equipment data sheets.
- Knowledge of ASME AG-1, ASHRAE, SMACNA standards, and experience with DOE Nuclear Cleaning Handbook and guides.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
