Job Description SummaryThe Inpatient Coder is an advanced coding position responsible for the accurate and timely assignment of codes for all outpatient and inpatient diagnoses and procedures. As a vital member of our respected professional team, the Inpatient Coder will work collaboratively with other areas of the Health Information Management department and the Clinical Documentation Integrity unit to advance the profession and reinforce the valuable contributions coders make to the care delivery system.Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities:
• Using established department policies and procedures in conjunction with the current versions of ICD-CM Classification for Hospitals, determines the proper diagnosis, assigns co-morbidities and complications, secondary diagnoses, present on admission indicators, HAC (Hospital Acquired Conditions), principal procedure codes, and secondary procedure codes
•Queries providers when documentation requires clarification
•Proactively works with medical leadership to address concerning documentation trends
Requirements•CCS certification required• 6+ months of relevant inpatient facility coding experience• 3m 360 and Epic experience preferred•Familiarity with anatomical, physiological, and pharmaceutical terms and concepts
Skills & Abilities•Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills•Ability to think critically•Excellent reading comprehension•Developed analytical skills to gather and interpret data•Proficient data entry skills, displaying both speed and accuracy•MS Office suite
Work ScheduleMonday- Friday start times flexible between 7am -9 am and end time between 3:30pm -5:30pm
