Western National is seeking a Loss Control Manager to join our team!
The individual in this role will have the opportunity to manage loss control initiatives that contribute to the company's growth and profitability goals. This dual role is responsible for leading and supporting their team, as well as performing hands-on work, including special projects and fieldwork. The individual in this role will contribute to the execution of agency relationship strategies by providing survey and consultative services to agents, commercial policyholders, claims, and underwriting. This support relates to the development and implementation of loss control and cost containment strategies and programs.
What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?
Selects, coaches, develops, mentors, and retains staff to ensure loss control best practices are in place and company, departmental, and individual goals are met.Leads and provides input for the development, maintenance, and implementation of loss control guidelines, processes, priorities, procedures, and best practices to ensure the profitable growth of the company.Ensures alignment between staff skills / competencies with service strategy needs as well as internal best practices.Identifies skills gaps and builds development strategies in collaboration with leadership.Effectively triages work to achieve appropriate utilization of loss control resource capabilities.Provides loss control services for complex and larger service accounts that assist in the reduction of exposure and loss ratio and creates and implements mutually agreed-upon annual service plans.Utilizes expertise to adequately evaluate risk operations, exposures, and controls for underwriting.Provides recommendations and resources to assist in the reduction of risk exposures to support company cost containment strategies in an effective manner.Builds and maintains productive relationships both internally and externally by utilizing individual credibility and applying business insight to communicate risk factors.Assists in management of third-party loss control partners.Independently and in partnership with marketing, claims, and underwriting, provides leadership in growing book of business by promoting loss control services.Reviews and resolves any service concerns and issues from policyholder and agents and reports concerns to management when appropriate.Makes decisions independently following established guidelines and procedures with room for discretion and interpretation.Determines which commercial risks to offer continuing account service and continually assesses workload considering business priorities to direct workloads accordingly.Interprets and executes company policies and guidelines.Takes the lead and / or mobilizes action to resolve problems and / or improve processes.Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards by responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer's expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer's issue is resolved.Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.Requirements
What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?
Prior supervisory / management experience with demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, direct, and develop individuals.Valid and unrestricted driver's license and acceptable driving meeting underwriting standards required.Proven experience presenting technical training topics in an understandable format to large internal and / or external audiences.Demonstrated understanding and implementation of industry best practices and standards.Advanced knowledge of industry processes, hazards, and application of controls.Demonstrated knowledge and application of DOT, NFPA, OSHA, MSHA, CPSC, ACGIH standards, and ergonomics.Working knowledge of business insurance and independent agency environment.Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packagesBachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related business or technical work experience in the area of insurance or occupational health and safety.Continuing education currently possessing one or more of the following certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Chartered Property Causality Underwriter (CPCU).Ability to travel, including overnight, approximately 10%-20% of the time.What will our ideal candidate have?

The full hiring range for this role is $107,800 - $172,500, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role.
