In Corporate Affairs, you’ll have the opportunity to play a critical role in enhancing and protecting Target’s brand and enabling growth across the business. With the broad range of complementary capabilities in Communications, Sustainability, Risk, Reputation Management, Government Affairs, DEI, and Community Impact, this team helps Target manage the needs and expectations of our team, guests, media, communities, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
We are seeking an innovative, strategic leader to join us as Director of Stakeholder Engagement. This role is essential for building and nurturing relationships that align with our mission and values across communities nationwide. The ideal candidate is one who can foresee opportunities for collaboration and investment, driving initiatives that foster strong partnerships and help fuel Target’s continued growth. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage key stakeholders, including national and regional community partners. In addition, this leader will work with key internal partners on strategies that impact employees, guests, partners, and community groups. This individual will be a part of the broader Corporate Affairs team, and will lead initiatives that foster strong relationships, enhance the organization’s reputation, and support strategic business objectives through effective communication and collaboration. The Director will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to align interests, manage expectations, and ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
As a Director of Stakeholder Engagement you will:
Stakeholder Strategy Development:Develop and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies that align with the organization’s goals and mission, with a particular focus on established, legacy partners as well as new and emerging segments.
Relationship & Program Management:Build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders that align with Target’s strategic growth plans. Continually assess and measure program goals and outcomes.
Communication:Oversee and guide clear, consistent communication strategies with all enterprise stakeholder groups, ensuring transparency and trust across interactions. Develop messaging strategies, plans and materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Issues and Risk Management:Identify and partner on emerging issues, risks, and opportunities related to stakeholder concerns, and proactively address them through engagement strategies and timely communication. Work cross-functionally across multiple partners.
Advocacy:Serve as a representative for the organization in public forums, conferences, and other stakeholder engagement events, advocating for the company’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.

About You:
Four-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years of experience in stakeholder engagement, corporate communications, or public relations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven track record of developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies that drive business results.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Strong understanding of key stakeholder groups relevant to the organization (e.g., nonprofit/community, government, industry, community, media).
Experience working cross-functionally in a matrixed organization.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
