Director of Annual Giving and Membership

The Maryland Center for History and Culture seeks a dynamic fundraising professional to join our External Affairs Department as the Director of Annual Giving and Membership. Reporting to the Vice President of External Affairs, this position will be responsible for the strategy, planning, and implementation of all aspects of general giving to support the organization?s Annual Fund, membership program, and recurring general operating grants.

The Director of Annual Giving and Membership will work closely with the Vice President of External Affairs and President & CEO to build our membership base and advance an annual giving program that generates funds through high-net-worth individuals, special events, and grant and foundation support which meet and exceed fundraising goals. The Director of Annual Giving and Membership supervises the Annual Giving & Membership Coordinator fostering a rewarding work environment and culture of excellence and philanthropy at MCHC. This position collaborates closely with the External Affairs Officer in the design and implementation of cultivation events.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is a strong internal and external communicator, and has the capacity and skills to help significantly expand the individual donor base through direct solicitations and stewardship.

Responsibilities

Administration

Supervise Annual Giving and Membership Coordinator and work directly with the Vice President of External Affairs to ensure the overall success of relationship building and fundraising from individual and foundation prospects;

Supervise gift entry, donor stewardship and acknowledgement, and data management to ensure compliant and responsive administration of membership and annual fund gifts;

Serve as an advocate for members and donors by proactively assessing and delivering membership benefits and ensuring timely responses to member inquiries.

Cultivation & Solicitation

Advance the strategy and vision for annual giving and membership stewardship and acquisition efforts through targeted appeals, relationship building, and other avenues;

Develop effective fundraising communications that utilize data, storytelling, and persuasive language to engage donors and members on a variety of platforms;

Collaborate with the External Affairs team on the production of special cultivation events and fundraising initiatives;

Support and grow the organization?s relationship with members of the Board of Trustees and committee members through solicitation, including drafting and coordination of regular communications material;

Make direct asks to individual giving prospects to contribute to MCHC and assist with the solicitation strategies for the leadership team and the Board of Trustees engaged in fundraising;

Facilitate application development, submission, and reporting for 4-5, recurring major operating grants in coordination with department leads.

Strategy & Integration

Develop strategy and supervise implementation of MCHC membership drives and annual fundraising campaigns inclusive of mailed and digital appeals;

Ensure that senior staff and leadership are supported in their donor relations work by developing strategy briefs and facilitating moves management meetings.

Collaborate with the Vice President of External Affairs to ensure the integrity and operation of MCHC?s Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and its ongoing roll-out to other departments.

Qualifications

Three or more years of professional experience in a fundraising context;

Bachelor?s degree required and a major in the arts or humanities fields is a plus;

Demonstrated experience and skill with individual fundraising planning and goal setting;

Demonstrated experience of higher-level work with prospect and donor information systems and reporting tools, including Salesforce or comparable systems;

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills;

Experience with, and interest in, working in a fast-paced team-driven environment;

Management and supervisory experience, a plus;

Demonstrated experience crafting persuasive, data-driven communications, a plus;

An interest in museums, history, art, and culture is required.

About the Position

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with full benefits package, including medical, dental, 403(b) retirement plan, and a health savings account. Full-time employees of MCHC are part of a paid leave policy that offers up to 20 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave annually in addition to the recognition of 11 federal holidays. An average of 2 evenings and/or weekend days per month are required to support events with the provision of compensatory time. Eligible for 1-2 days of telework following an introductory period. The salary range is $75,000 - $80,000.
