The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a full time Chief Radiation Therapy Technologist at UHealth Plantation.

SUMMARY

The Chief Radiation Therapy Technologist supervises and participates in the activities within the radiation therapy section. Additionally, the incumbent administers radiation treatment to chemotherapy patients, as prescribed by physicians. Moreover, an employee in this position monitors the patients’ physical conditions, determines whether adverse side effects are taking place, and provides emotional support.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Oversees the activities, workflow, scheduling, productivity, and quality of staff members.

Completes yearly performance appraisals for the staff and handles requests for merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.

Updates staff regarding changes in policies and procedures.

Administers doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment.

Positions patients for treatment with accuracy. Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.

Documents radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patients' reactions.

Observes patients’ clinical progress and reports any signs of complications.

Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.

Performs equipment safety checks, knows safe limits of operation, and reports abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority.

Constructs immobilization devices and employs custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.

Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) Accreditation

CPR Certification

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Knowledge of business and management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.
