WHAT YOU’LL DOAbout 50% of this role will focus on cultivating, stewarding, and managing a portfolio of public and private donors to ensure the Hawai‘i region is supported by a strong base of support. About 50% of this role support will contribute to working towards our collective 2030 vision in Hawai‘i, strengthening partnerships and our regional program. The ideal candidate is a team player who is willing to contribute to the collective team’s vision, able to work across multiple workstreams, and skilled at building relationships with others.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Development (50%):
Work in partnership with Executive Director and MD, Development to develop the strategy and oversee the Hawai‘i Island and public funding portfolios.
Hawai‘i Island: Identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit (when appropriate) a portfolio of high-potential donors across a variety of funding streams on Hawai‘i Island; strengthen and steward relationship with Hawai‘i Island board and advisory committee members; lead stakeholder engagement and fundraising efforts on Hawai‘i Island.
Public: Oversee public funding grants and opportunities, including AmeriCorps; Manage public funding grant writing, reporting, and stewarding public officials.
Development Operations: Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach.
External Network (20%):
Contribute to the overall external network team which is charged with strengthening our overall brand health and sustaining strong partnerships. Aligned with the development areas of focus, this role will further focus on cultivating Hawai‘i Island partners and policy makers at both the State and City and County levels.
Recruitment or Corps Member Program (20%):
Contribute to one area of regional program, either recruitment or corps member program.
Recruitment: Contribute to our regional team efforts to diversify our corps, including increasing the representation of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders.
Corps Member Program: Contribute to our regional team efforts to customize our regional program, including supporting the Native Hub’s learning question related to honoring the sovereignty of native communities and supporting university partnerships.
Regional Team (10%):
All Hawai‘i team members contribute time to cross-team projects and all staff expectations, including selection of corps member or ignite fellows, and facilitating and engaging in all staff gatherings and learning experiences.
A WEEK IN THE LIFEOver the course of any week, the Director, Development & Regional Team Initiatives will spend time across a variety of workstreams. Each day will look different. Some days, you may spend engaging in person with donors and policy makers to share what is happening in schools and the education landscape; other days you may be on zoom calls with members of your team or the Hawai‘i Island advisory committee working to plan an upcoming event; other days, you might spend behind a computer individually working to write a grant and create collateral storytelling materials.
YOUR EXPERIENCEYour areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
At least 5 years of related work experience, some of which must include fundraising experience.
Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong strategic thinking and project management skills.
Strong orientation to partnerships; ability to build and cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders and invest and mobilize groups of constituents.
Baseline knowledge of Hawai‘i histories, culture, and context.
Work Demands
Occasional weekend or evening work hours required.
Must be able to travel to engage with local donors.
Occasional travel to O‘ahu required.

YOUR COMPENSATIONThe applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier B: $81,000-$108,300
