The School of Law has an exciting opening for a Director of Alumni Relations. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Director of Alumni Relations will be instrumental in building, maintaining and nurturing meaningful connections between the UW School of Law and its alumni network. The Director will lead the School’s alumni engagement efforts, including designing and leading outreach efforts to deepen alumni connections; building bridges between the School and its extended community; and creating platforms for ongoing connection between the School’s alumni, students, faculty, leaders and stakeholders in the legal community. This position will be responsible for the planning, delivery and assessment of a wide range of initiatives and programs that seek to build relationships with the School’s alumni and friends.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Development and External Relations, the Director of Alumni Relations will be a trusted thought leader on the team, contributing to creative problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration in service of the School of Law’s goals and priorities.

What You Will Do:Alumni Engagement (40%)

Develop and implement comprehensive outreach strategies that engage a broad range of constituencies, including recent graduates, alumni, community stakeholders and industry leaders.

Build and nurture collaborative partnerships with departments across the law school, including the Office of Career Development, Student Affairs, Admissions, and centers such as the Asian Law Center, Native American Law Center, and Barer Institute for Sustainable International Development.

Partner with the Office of Student Affairs to establish a pipeline of alumni engagement by connecting alumni with the School’s student organizations and fostering meaningful mentorship opportunities for current students.

Drive proactive communication with alumni through personalized outreach, ensuring consistent and meaningful touchpoints that reinforce their connection to the Law School and its mission.

Work closely with the UW Alumni Association and other UW Constituent Relations partners to align Law School strategies with broader institutional goals and leverage University-wide resources.

Drive alumni engagement initiatives, ensuring they are aligned with the long-term strategic objectives of the Law School and continuously assessing their effectiveness.

Event Planning and Execution (35%)

Lead the planning and execution of key alumni events including regional alumni gatherings, class reunions and signature programs, such as the 125th Anniversary Gala.

Manage the Alumni Engagement Committee and work closely with Law School leaders on the Alumni Leadership Council.

Develop a comprehensive event strategy that aligns with the Law School’s goals for alumni engagement, ensuring events are impactful, relevant and well-executed.

Collaborate with the School of Law’s Marketing and Communications team to create compelling, cohesive messaging for alumni events, and ensure consistent promotion across various channels, including newsletters, alumni websites and social media platforms.

Manage event budgets, ensuring cost-effective planning and execution while maximizing the impact and success of each event.

Determine post-event evaluation metrics to assess the effectiveness of each engagement, using data-driven insights to refine and improve future events.

Program Development and Leadership (25%)

Lead the development of new alumni engagement programs designed to support alumni at every stage of their careers.

Foster an inclusive and welcoming alumni community, creating programs and initiatives that prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

Act as a strategic thought leader, identifying opportunities to enhance existing programs and create new approaches to deepen alumni engagement and increase private support for the Law School.

Evaluate program effectiveness, regularly assessing the success of initiatives and making data-informed decisions to prioritize or eliminate activities, as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree AND at least four years of experience in community or stakeholder engagement, or related roles.

What You Bring:

Experience working in higher education, alumni relations or the legal profession.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Event planning execution experience and expertise.

What You Can Expect:

Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

Frequent local travel expected.

Ability to lift/move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down.
