Pay PhilosophyThe typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.DescriptionGlobal Risk Solutions (GRS) Legal seeks a highly motivated, intellectually curious, and collaborative attorney to support its North America Specialty organization. The successful candidate will partner closely with the business, serving as legal counsel to various profit centers, focusing on Healthcare.Day-to-day activities will include drafting and reviewing primarily non-admitted specialty insurance products, providing advice on time-sensitive transactions, analyzing and advising on issues related to regulatory compliance, counseling clients on non-litigated claims, and coordinating across legal teams to solve complex problems.Expertise in insurance coverage and policy drafting is required and familiarity and experience with insurance products offered to healthcare institutions is preferred. Common sense, great judgment, a broad perspective, a willingness to learn, and a good sense of humor are key to the candidate’s success.Typical Starting Salary is $155,900-$170,000Responsibilities:Provides high-quality oral and written legal advice cost effectively to internal clients.Recommends practical courses of action to achieve client goals within the scope of what is legally permissible.Performs comprehensive research and analysis of reported cases, statutes, regulations and other legal materials regarding issues often characterized by an absence of clear legal precedent and renders clear legal opinions and advice as necessary.Represents clients in complex legal and business transactions, with minimal supervision, where the facts, the law, or the precedents involved can be interpreted differently or are in dispute.Representative duties include: Drafting and reviewing insurance policies and endorsements, including healthcare P&C and professional liability products; Providing advice to specialty lines underwriters from quote to bind on time-sensitive transactions; Negotiation of commercial contracts; Managing outside counsel in connection pre-litigation and litigation matters; Representing the Company before regulatory and administrative bodies in connection with the filing and approval of insurance products; Providing advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company’s business; and Anticipating legal issues and encouraging practices to prevent problems from arising.May assign, direct, and review the work of law clerks and paralegals.May prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.Maintains current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.Qualifications:Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues. Within certain practice groups, may require in-depth knowledge of a specialized area of law. Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.Generally requires at least five years’ experience as a practicing attorney.About UsThis position may have in-office requirements depending on candidate location.
