The
Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences
within the School of Medicine at University of California, San Diego, is actively recruiting to fill the position of Director,
Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine . The UCSD Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine consists of 13 clinical faculty, 6 basic science faculty, 1 APP, and 3 current fellows, increasing to 2 fellows per year in 2025.
The Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences and Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine are committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department is expanding its clinical and research programs and is recruiting a Division Director with a strong track record of research and/or education in the field of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The Department is interested in physician or physician scientist candidates who lead a strong research program, have a passion for delivery of outstanding patient care, and are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the workplace. As an ambassador for the Department and the Division, the Director is expected to lead by example, advise the Department Chair and provide mentorship to the research and clinical faculty, as well as to fellows, residents, and medical students. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, teaching, research and patient care and will benefit from the highly stimulating and collaborative environment within the Department.
The Division Director is a key clinical and administrative leader who is expected to balance and maintain prominence in the tripartite academic mission by promoting excellence and advancement in clinical care, education, and research. Historically, the MFM Division Director has been the Director of Maternity Services (Obstetrics). Interest in this role is preferred. Demonstrated leadership in SMFM, ACOG, or equivalent national organizations is desired along with ongoing scholarly contributions to the field.
Basic qualifications
(required at time of application)
MD, DO, or equivalent.
Board certification in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and currently practicing in the field.
5 years of clinical experience in the full spectrum of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Strong publication record, with a minimum of 3 - 5 publications.
At least 5 years of leadership experience at a division level or in major programmatic areas, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic medical center.
Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree in Clinical Research (or equivalent) is preferred.
Extramural funding is also preferred.
Salary range:
The base pay range for this position is $400,000–$600,000.
