In pursuit of its mission to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s capital, Casey Trees (CT) delivers a broad base of programs and services to the DC Metro area. The organization plants more than 6,500 trees each year grown at our own nursery; cares and maintains those trees; conserves greenspace; conducts school and community-based youth STEM programming; and advocates for stronger policies and laws to preserve trees across the area. Casey Trees emphasizes innovative solutions and working with diverse partners to advance and promote tree canopy solutions that meet the needs of the communities that we serve.
Summary
The organization is seeking a Communications & Marketing Manager to fulfill all aspects of the organization’s unified communications and marketing related to its various programs and the priorities of the organization. This role is responsible for managing all communications and marketing efforts related to Casey Trees tree planting, volunteer, event, advocacy, donor, and partnership programing. This includes aligning all print and digital marketing collateral, advertising, education materials, email communications, social media, fundraising and development collateral, and special projects to achieve program goals, build brand awareness, and serve Casey Trees’ mission.
Compensation
Salary range: $90-105K. Casey Trees offers excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, flexible spending account, paid holidays, paid time off, and retirement plan 403 (b).
Essential Functions
Develop, implement, and manage integrated promotions and campaigns that increase awareness of and participation in the organization and its programs.
Develop and define strategies for multi-platform campaigns to build brand awareness, increase engagement, and serve Casey Trees’ (CT) mission.
Ensure all outgoing materials (advertisements, newsletter, social posts, PR) are accurate and follow brand, org-wide communications strategy, and targeted goals within program areas.
Develops, implements, manages creative and copy elements for marketing campaigns and program materials for a range of audiences, demographics, and diverse stakeholders.
Manages contracts with communications and marketing vendors, ensuring projects and work are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
Maintains and adheres to schedules of all marketing activities, including paid advertising.
Tracks and reports on effectiveness of marketing campaigns and activities, analyze results and ROI, and advise strategy based on results.
Manages the creation and production of graphic design and copy for a range of print and digital marketing materials across a wide range of mediums and platforms.
Manages Casey Trees’ events and communications calendar.
In collaboration with other departments, oversees planning, production, event execution, including invitations, logistics emails, etc.
Leads CT’s event strategy, planning, and execution across program disciplines at CT.
Manages constituent communications, including responses to constituent inquiries and comments to shared email boxes and social media messages.
Drafts and distributes media releases; prepare media kits; conceptualizes and pitches story ideas.
With the Director of Communications, formulates and implements a comprehensive strategic communications plan, promotional calendar, and outreach/engagement strategy.
With the Director of Communications, develops and adheres to a departmental budget.
Analyze, author, and report out on communications functions and metrics for grantors, donors, CT staff, Board Members and various audiences as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
The Communications and Marketing Manager manages two full-time employees and various external contractors as needs dictate.
Working Conditions
The incumbent works in an office setting and must be able to use equipment such as Computers/Printer/Copier/Telephone/Smartphones/Tablets, etc. (not an exclusive list). Additionally, the incumbent must have the ability to manage partner events in year-round elements.
Physical Demands:
All CT employees may engage in volunteer tree planting and related activities and events in outdoor environments. The incumbent may at times work outside, in the heat, cold and inclement weather and must have suitable clothing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to talk, hear, stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a fulltime, exempt position, averaging 40 hours a week. The incumbent must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed. This position requires and prioritizes in person components in CT’s office environment, in the field, and between CT sites.
Travel
Travel is primarily local to the greater Washington, DC metro area including daily and overnight travel to Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, VA. Some out of the area travel and overnights may be expected.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public communications, marketing, journalism, or relevant field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Eight or more years of professional experience in communications or a related field.
Demonstrated experience managing staff and contractors and building a diverse, high-functioning team.
Experience managing marketing campaigns, multimedia projects, and communications related to specific programming efforts (for instance: events, outreach, advocacy, program enrollment, sales, fundraising, etc.)
Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to synthesize and translate complex topics
for multiple audiences.
Excellent working knowledge of communications and marketing software applications for graphic design, web design, mass email communication, social media tools, and other content creation.
Strong creative, copy, and graphic design skills, with portfolio showcasing brand work and/or marketing campaigns.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external groups/individuals.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Outlook)
Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Casey Trees’ software/solution stack, including Salesforce, FormAssembly, Pardot, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Wordpress, Eventbrite, Pics.IO, and Shopify.
Web/Email technical skills to create and edit basic HTML and CSS
Experience in non-profits and an understanding of fundraising, volunteer, advocacy, and other program needs
