Position Summary: Team Leader is the individual in charge of an inspection team of two or more individuals and is responsible for planning, preparing, and performing field inspections of bridges, large culverts, overhead signs, traffic signal structures, lights, or other highway ancillary structures. The Team Leader assures that inspections within the jurisdiction of the team are performed on-time and in accordance with the NBIS and the applicable US State's requirements. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Lead an inspection team for assigned structure inspections Coordinate necessary access equipment and maintenance of traffic support Ensure field inspection team is fully equipped for inspections prior to going into the field. Leads pre-inspection safety meetings on-site. Review existing bridge/structure plans and previous inspection reports to become familiar with a structures configuration and previously reported deficiencies. Perform field measurements, evaluate existing structure conditions, and document findings in the field Write/enter the technical inspection reports using client approved software applications Establish/review/update bridge element condition ratings for inspected structures Review existing bridge load rating inputs and assumptions, and recommend a new load rating if necessary Development repair and maintenance recommendations for inspected structures. Attends project meetings as required Works within the established project schedules to meet deadlines Mentors junior bridge inspectors. Performs additional related duties as assigned Required Skills Successfully completed the FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety of In-Service Bridges training course If FHWA-NHI-130055 was taken greater than five years ago, the candidate must have also completed FHWA-NHI-130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training Hold an active, valid drivers license Required Experience A qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader candidate must, at a minimum meet one of the following conditions: Be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in a US State or Territory; or Have five years bridge safety inspection experience; or Have all the following: A bachelors degree in engineering or engineering technology; Successfully passed the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Fundamentals of Engineering examination; Two years of bridge inspection experience; or Have all of the following: An associates degree in engineering or engineering technology; Four years of bridge inspection experience Working Conditions Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
