Minimum Qualifications

Who We Are : Our Chester House program provides day programming, employment services (Individual Placement and Supports model), and transportation for adults with serious mental illness. Our transportation team is a caring group of staff, and we are looking for a Transportation Assistant. We work together as a team to support each other daily. Minimum Education and Experience : High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in driving a transit vehicle or in customer service or administrative support work in a public transit environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of experience driving a large passenger van and working with people with disabilities preferred. Experience offering transportation services, scheduling trips and drivers for daily routes, Medicaid transportation billing in an electronic transportation billing system experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Working knowledge of safety regulations and laws pertaining to vehicle operations: of defensive driving techniques; of vehicle maintenance and repair practices. Ability to operate a computerized transportation routing system; to safely operate a passenger van; to exercise judgment in emergency situations; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Demonstrated service skills preferred. Ability to work in a team environment and independently preferred. Ability to be flexible to cover driving shifts on short notice preferred. Problem solving skills, and computer proficiency preferred.

Additional Requirements: Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following: •Completes electronic Medicaid transportation billing utilizing vendor software. •Assists the Transportation Coordinator in processing daily trip requests and completing requests /follow-ups for alternative transportation trips. •Serves as back-up for all part time van drivers and Transportation Coordinator as needed. •Works with drivers to electronically create and submit accident reports and vehicle damage reports to risk management. •Supports Transportation Coordinator with monthly van inspections, collecting mileage, and coordinating with Fleet for vehicle maintenance. •Assists in conducting and maintaining new driver and in-service training; schedules required training. •Responds to problems in the field such as equipment failures and vehicle accidents. •Performs a variety of administrative support tasks such as completing reports, filing, answering telephones, and data entry. •Performs other work as required.

PLEASE NOTE:

Position open until filled (first review to begin October 14, 2024). Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with required flexibility at times between 6:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Work Location
