Overview
The Category Manager strategically maximizes category performance by creating and executing sales plans and pricing programs which support company business plans and initiatives. The Category Manager performs detailed assessments of the category's business and provides insights of sales, pricing, promotions, and other growth opportunities. Works with existing vendor base to negotiate terms and develop new incentive programs. Identifies measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) and creates forecast assumptions for various customer segments. Keeps up to date on key market news, trends, and insights to deliver best-in-class product offerings.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 1-3 years of category management experienceBachelor's degree in related field preferred.Self-motivated individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.Ability to work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of the company.Must understand budgets, gross profit, sales, shrink, and bottom-line goals.Must be proficient in Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Ability to maintain a high degree of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.Ability to work with people of various backgrounds, personality traits and levels of authority to accomplish department and company goals.Responsibilities
Develop, negotiate, and implement advertising and merchandising programs to achieve sales & profit targets.Evaluate, negotiate, and implement new product introductions. Manage selections of new items and items to discontinue.Manage and develop a Category Analyst on all facets of Buying/Category ManagementAssist Category Analyst in managing everyday pricing to achieve superior price image and enhance profitability while maintaining competitiveness.Represent the Company at trade shows and functions; facilitate vendor business reviews; be the "face" of Roche Bros. in our market and trade circles; maintain complete knowledge of competitive marketplace.Direct Space Management and merchandising initiatives to stimulate sales and profits, evaluate our shelf space and "real estate" to include allocations in new stores and remodels; asset management.Utilize consumer insights/trends to develop category plans, including strategies and tactics to deliver projected sales and margin.Communicate concise direction to successfully implement sales initiatives; resolve issues expediently.Research and procure products to maintain variety and sustain or increase consumer interest and competitiveness.Ability to create and implement dynamic promotional plans to meet company sales goals.Develops and communicates category information to all levels within the organization. Participates in weekly/monthly planning and communication meetingsWork with distributors to ensure exceptional service levels with minimum inventory.Negotiate and bill vendor promotional funding to achieve category and Company targeted goals.Assist the Assistant Director of Grocery Buying & Sales with forecasting sales and analyzing merchandising programs for success or corrective action.Conduct category reviews of assigned product groups using internal and external (IRI, Nielsen, vendor) data.Develop and negotiate robust Own Label programs to achieve sales, profit and category share targets.Develops product display and merchandising recommendations within guidelines that drive category results.Develop profitable exit strategies for merchandise transitions.Identifies leverage opportunities and negotiates with suppliers to achieve lowest cost of goods.
