Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as its first Sustainability Manager. S/he will play a critical role of managing the organization-wide and project specific greenhouse gas inventories, tracking and implementation of MSH's Net Zero Plan, and other sustainability efforts across the organization.The primary responsibility of this position will be to manage the GHG reporting and tracking of MSH's Net Zero Plan. In addition, the position will oversee and manage project-specific GHG reporting and goal tracking, which may include technical assistance to host government and in-country stakeholders in the areas of GHG emissions reduction and climate change resiliency and mitigation. The position will contribute to new project design and new business development. As a new endeavour at MSH, this position will have space to make considerable impact in this area and to strategically design the data collection, analysis and reporting plan for the organization in such a way as to efficiently and accurately flow these processes down for project-specific reporting and tracking.This position will act as the central point at MSH for internal (MSH country Green Teams, sustainability and environmental responsibility capacity strengthening programs) and external (technical working groups, initiatives or professional groups) group involvement in the areas of climate change, sustainability or environmental responsibility.The position will also participate in MSH's funding and donor landscape analyses and be responsible for proactively monitoring MSH donor rules, regulations, requirements and developments in the areas of GHG emissions tracking and reporting, climate mitigation and resilience activities, and other sustainability topics, such as biodiversity, waste management, pollution and water efficiency per global standards.Specific Responsibilities Include:Technical Strategy and Vision (40%)Develop and roll out data collection processes to streamline, routinize and ensure quality of GHG emissions data for the entire organizationDevelop emissions tracking processes for specific projects, as required, and work collaboratively with project teams to collect, analyze and disseminate data.Lead the process of reporting, internally and externally, on organization-wide and project-specific GHG emissionsAct as primary liaison for consultants or vendors engaged by MSH to conduct GHG emission calculations.Act as subject matter expert for organization-wide and project-specific methods to reduce emissionsSupport the development and roll out of MSH's organization-wide Net Zero Plan, as needed. Provide support in the areas of dissemination, change management, communication and advocacy plans, and other methods for encouraging and ensuring adoption of the Net Zero Plan.Provide technical assistance and expertise as needed for climate resilience activities and methodologies, both organization-wide and project-specific.Convene MSH country office Green Teams. Develop and introduce innovative methods of expanding the program and encouraging involvementProject Management, Home Office (10%)Support project teams in the development of project-specific Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plans and subsequent reporting against these USAID- mandated plans. Support project teams with other donor-specific environmental, sustainability, or climate-related plans and reporting, as needed.Convene project or country-specific advisory groups of project leadership staff to develop and implement project-specific GHG reduction plans and activities. Provide support and technical expertise to update plans on an annual (work planning) basis and report on results on an annual (program reporting) basisBusiness Development (40%)Monitor MSH donor rules, regulations, requirements and developments in the areas of GHG emissions tracking and reporting, climate mitigation and resilience activities, and other sustainability topics, such as biodiversity, waste management, pollution and water efficiency.Support identifying new-and optimizing existing-sustainability initiatives, which includes research on best practices on environmental policies and procedures and practices [examples of initiatives include: composting and recycling, waste audits and waste management plans; office building energy audits; build connections with other corporate policies guidelines and practices (procurement for example); develop and disseminate communication materials or programs to motivate staff to participate in these programs.Contribute to MSH business development by providing specific inputs into proposals in relation to mitigation of greenhouse gas emission for project operations, and technical approach as well as EMMPSynergy and Cross Fertilization (10%)Collaborate with offices, technical working groups and other teams within MSH to design, develop and roll out staff capacity building opportunities to increase awareness and knowledge of environmental, sustainability and climate change topics.Act as organizational focal point for any external groups, initiatives, roundtables or other professional institutions related to environmental responsibility in global public healthWork collaboratively across functional areas, offices and groups in MSH to strategically modify our policies, practices and procedures to enable MSH to meet its emissions goalsQUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATIONMinimum of Bachelor's degree and 5-6 years, or Masters and 3-4 years of relevant work experience in sustainability practice or environmental science.REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCEPractical experience in sustainability management for a global organization.Experience working with LMICs in Africa, Asia, and/or Latin America/Caribbean regions required.Strong conceptualization, facilitation, and planning skills.Excellent cross-cultural communication and active listening skills.Environmental communication and training experience.Strong quantitative analytical skills, extensive experience and comfort with Excel, ability to analyze environmental data for trends and produce a range of supporting graphics to illustrate.Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills for a variety of audiences.Working knowledge of sustainability industry trends.Experience with Greenhouse gas (GHG) Protocol, Global Reporting Initiative, Carbon Disclosure Project, preferred.Knowledge and understanding of global standards and practices in developing and implementing net zero plansTeam playerCOMPETENCIESAction Oriented, Business Acumen, Drive for Results, Information Sharing, Managing and Measuring work, Negotiating, Priority Setting, Problem Solving, Decision Quality, Listening, Managerial Courage, Time Management, Motivating Others, Conflict Management, DelegationPHYSICAL DEMANDSSome travel may be required.The expected salary range for this position is: $71,100.00 - $85,000.00 annually (U.S. locations only).MSH considers multiple job-related factors when determining an offer, including but not limited to, business and organizational needs, candidate qualifications, internal equity, location, and internal budget.
