General Purpose
The T&D Data Engineer will be responsible for development of data pipelines and data governance for new and existing data products supporting technical and operational programs in electric operations. The incumbent will work within an expanding and increasingly complex data environment to support business critical wildfire risk data management and analyses, reliability reporting, and other use cases within electric operations and asset management. The data engineer will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure data integrity, availability, and accessibility. Example tasks include the development and implementation of data pipelines for wildfire risk modeling, outage tracking and reporting, and resilience analysis. In performing these tasks, this position will be responsible for creation of data pipelines, data governance standards, and backend system architecture leveraging the Palantir Foundry operational data analytics platform and other enterprise data management software.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to process and integrate data from various sources for wildfire safety, reliability, and resilience applications.
Develop and implement data governance standards to support data pipelines and applications.
Optimize data workflows and query performance to enhance system efficiency and data processing speed.
Develop and implement data quality control and quality assurance processes for supported data pipelines and applications.
Monitor data systems and pipelines for performance issues, troubleshoot, and resolve any data-related problems.
Coordinate with contracted vendors in support of the tasks above to ensure alignment across applications.
Manage external and internal stakeholder relationships and oversee development milestones with transparency; appropriately involve necessary stakeholders for changes in processes or technology requirements.
Identify improvement needs based on external and internal stakeholder input, measurement and evaluation, and gap analysis.
Promote a continuous improvement mindset by conducting retrospectives and sharing lessons learned.
Provide regular written and verbal updates to leadership on project status, successes, and lessons learned.
Work closely with leadership teams to identify ways to collaborate and meet business objectives.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years of related experience in database administration, systems analysis or data engineering.
Demonstrated experience using Python and other programming languages.
Demonstrated experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Demonstrated knowledge of backup and recovery, disaster recovery, high availability, security, infrastructure, performance tuning, lifecycle, data management and data movement.
Effective oral and written communication skills fostering an atmosphere of teamwork, high productivity and accuracy.
Consistently delivers requirements and meets timelines.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Preferences
Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering.
Experience using and supporting electric utility data systems.
Experience developing and supporting data pipelines within the Palantir Foundry platform.
