Media Relations

The Media Relations job designs and executes external communications programs to support aligned business areas. The scope of these programs includes media relations, external executive visibility, thought leadership and reputation management. This job is responsible for executing robust external communications programs to best position the company's suite of products, services and overall expertise in the industry. In addition, this job provides external communications counsel to senior management and other internal subject-matter experts.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Partner closely with a wide range of internal stakeholders to help drive demand for aligned business area priorities, promoting the firm's investment and market views.

Develop strong working relationships with business/financial and trade media across channels (print, broadcast, digital and social).

Set the broader communications strategy for aligned business areas, leading execution in partnership with colleagues and PR agency partners.

Collaborate with communications colleagues across the globe to understand the work the team does — externally and internally — to inform and shape commercial programs.

Work in lockstep with business partners and the Corporate Affairs team on reputational and risk issues as it relates to commercial priorities.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Media Relations job designs and executes external communications programs to support aligned business areas. The scope of these programs includes media relations, external executive visibility, thought leadership and reputation management. This job is responsible for executing robust external communications programs to best position the company's suite of products, services and overall expertise in the industry. In addition, this job provides external communications counsel to senior management and other internal subject-matter experts.

Nuveen is looking for a well-rounded communications professional to join our Media Relations team as a Vice President. To build and execute external communications campaigns in support of the firm’s commercial priorities, the ideal candidate:

Is a team player capable of working with internal and external stakeholders in a way that reflects the Firm’s core values and principles

Has knowledge of Real Estate and Real Assets markets

Has excellent writing skills and strong U.S.-based earned media relationships

Has a proven ability to provide strategic communications counsel to spokespeople and key executives

Has a proven ability to take initiative, handle multiple projects simultaneously, take a hands-on approach to work, have a critical eye to detail and ensure deadlines are met

Can execute all communications projects in conformance with legal, regulatory, risk and other applicable standards

Has experience managing sensitive corporate issues and/or crises

The person who joins in this role will be part of a growing global communications team and serve as a key partner to Nuveen’s businesses and stakeholders, including investing teams, marketing, legal & compliance, client relations and other areas of the firm. They will be externally facing and work to bring the best of Nuveen to clients and the market.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work alongside Nuveen’s Global Media Relations team to protect and enhance the firm’s brand and reputation by supporting corporate communications strategy, across asset classes

Work closely with colleagues worldwide to develop fully integrated communications programs that ensure consistency of messaging and align with global objectives

Foster strong working relationships with business/financial and trade media across channels (print, broadcast, digital and social)

Required Qualifications:

5+ media relations experience required, 7+ years of financial communications and media relations experience strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

University degree

Anticipated Posting End Date:

Base Pay Range: $135,000/yr. - $175,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
