Generation Projects Control Specialist - Gas & Oil
As a Generation Projects Control Specialist for our Gas & Oil Power Plants, you will be an essential part of our Project Management Organization (PMO), providing critical systems, reporting, and performance tracking support across all capital projects. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet key performance metrics. By delivering valuable insights through trend analysis and project tracking, you will help drive the success of our high-impact capital projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Tracking & Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive tracking systems for project schedules, costs, and performance metrics, ensuring clear visibility into project progress.
Budget Management: Monitor project financials, identifying trends, forecasting costs, and ensuring projects remain within budgetary limits.
Performance Analysis: Provide trending analysis to identify risks, opportunities, and performance gaps, enabling proactive adjustments.
Systems Support: Implement and manage project control systems, ensuring they align with PMO standards and facilitate streamlined reporting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with project managers, finance teams, and key stakeholders to provide data-driven insights that support informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong expertise in project control systems and software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, or other PMO tools)
Experience with capital project budgeting, cost tracking, and performance management
Proficiency in trend analysis, forecasting, and risk management
Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to handle complex datasets
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree (2 years) in Finance, Business, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in Finance and/or directly related Business positions.
OR
In lieu of Associates degree, a combination of college coursework and finance and/or directly related business experience equaling seven (7) years.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, or Qualifications:
Finance and/or Project Management experience.
Knowledge of Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Controls Principles.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Major Accountabilities
1) Provides for the oversight and closeout of projects not assigned to a Project Manager and projects completed using non-capital funding that are later deemed to be Capital projects.
Oversight responsibilities include coordinating with internal or external customers including plant personnel (if applicable), the Finance and Business Office (FBO) and the entering and updating of project information into the Enterprise Project Management System (EPMS).
2) Develops work orders for Capital projects for the next calendar year which includes but is not limited to: preparing reports to summarize each project for FBO, utilizing the Maximo work management system to create work orders, establishing all accounting system set up for each project and ensuring the accuracy of account charging information.
3) Monitors and tracks project schedules and cost performance. Confirms project milestone completion by utilizing reports within EPMS. Works with project managers, management, accounting, plant personnel (if applicable) or other stakeholders when project is off track and there are milestone delays to ensure project continues to move forward to completion.
4) Coordinates with FBO, project managers and PMO management team to manage monthly accrual and variance process and reporting.
5) Prepares weekly project closeout report which monitors the timely closeout process for all Capital projects. Prepares other project reports as required (e.g., stage gate, accrual process, variance, cash flow, forecasting, and budget).
6) Performs cost data analysis and development. Develops and manages reports and tools used to monitor and analyze project financial trends.
7) Prepares appropriate documentation for capital budget items requiring Owner approval (for coal plants).

APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
*Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
