Director, Translational Laboratory Shared Service (TLSS)
Service Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Oncology
West Virginia University Cancer Institute
The West Virginia University Cancer Institute is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Translational Laboratory Shared Service (TLSS). This role is pivotal in aligning TLSS operations with institutional goals and research priorities, particularly in support of the Cancer Institute and its mission to achieve NCI designation. This position would serve and advise the Cancer Institute, Department of Medical Oncology, Department of Cancer Prevention and Control, and Radiation Oncology, as well as other schools and departments at HSC that collaborate on research with the Cancer Institute (BioChem, Micro, School of Public Health, etc.). In addition, this position will serve the population of researchers, students, health care providers, and patients who will benefit from our service activities that support our land grant mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership : Provide strategic direction and leadership for TLSS, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and research priorities. Funding Acquisition : Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal agencies, private foundations, and industry partners to support and expand TLSS operations. Collaborative Research:
Lead interdisciplinary collaborations with faculty members, researchers, and external partners to drive innovative translational cancer research projects. Resource Development : Develop collaborations with existing Shared Resources to simplify and enhance the research experience for faculty members. Mentorship:
Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in translational research methodologies and career development. Academic Contribution:
Contribute to the academic mission by teaching courses, seminars, or workshops related to translational research, laboratory techniques, and scientific communication. Qualifications
PhD in Biology, Immunology, Toxicology, or a related scientific discipline A minimum of sever (7) years of experience in translational research within the biotechnology industry, preferably in cancer research. Proven experience in leading a research laboratory or similar environment. Strong track record of securing research funding. Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects. Excellent mentorship and teaching skills. Commitment to advancing the mission of the Cancer Institute and achieving NCI designation.
An on-campus office is provided, with opportunities for hybrid work.
