Darden's Career Center provides over 1,200 graduate business students (Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, Executive MBA, and Specialty Masters) with one-on-one professional career advising, lifelong career management skills, and exceptional internship/post-degree job search support. The Career Center supports our full-time residential students at our Darden's Goodwin Family Grounds in Charlottesville, VA and our working professional students at Darden's Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA. Our team is driven by a commitment to student success and thrives on helping students maximize their opportunities.

Additionally, the Career Center engages hundreds of companies that recruit and hire students for careers in consulting, investment banking, marketing, general management, tech, private equity/venture capital, and more. Many more employers engage Darden talent via virtual recruiting technologies and platforms. In 2023, the center managed over 1,600 job postings and hosted over 400 recruiting events. Our employer engagement model supports corporate partners in meeting their hiring goals and fosters long-term relationships between their organizations and the school.

Position Summary:

We seek a process-driven, technology-centered, and service-oriented leader to lead a team of 3 assistant/associate directors and provide a best-in-class recruiting experience for both employers and students. This includes setting a strategic vision for employer services, delivering employer events and interviews, and managing job postings. The Director will also oversee a portfolio of companies that hire Darden MBA talent.

The ideal candidate will inspire and motivate the team, while rolling up their sleeves to lead and execute hundreds of employer events each year. They must skillfully manage relationships with both employers and students, serving as the primary interface between these key stakeholders. The Director will champion the use of a web-based career management system, leveraging data and technology to drive efficient and seamless recruiting operations and. Introduce new approaches to existing processes, which are crucial to the success of Darden's strong student outcomes.

This position reports to the Senior Assistant Dean, Career Center & Professional Development and is a member of the Employer Engagement and Recruiting team. It will also work closely with the Director, Business Development & Corporate Relations (a new role in the Career Center) to align employer engagement with strategic business development goals.

The Director presents themselves as a process-driven operations leader and a strategic visionary that ensures seamless recruiting experiences for both students and employers through technology and collaborative engagement.

Responsibilities:

STRATEGY

Set a clear strategy for all recruiting operations and advise companies on best practices to achieve their hiring goals. Collaborate with Senior Director and Working Professionals career coaching teams to deliver tailored experiences for employers based on specific hiring interests.

Lead efforts to optimize recruiting opportunities for Working Professionals students, narrowing the gap with Full-Time MBA students while promoting access to opportunities and achieving high satisfaction levels with recruiting support and outcomes.

Share insights gained through corporate engagement with students, career center staff, and others to provide valuable updates on MBA recruiting, company trends, and the job market.

Educate and train the team on evolving MBA recruiting processes and best practices for employer engagement.

Contribute to initiatives led by the Director of Business Development & Corporate Relations (a new position within the Career Center), ensuring alignment with corporate relations strategies.

Promote job opportunities and postings for international students and collaborate with employers to enhance awareness and understanding of hiring protocols for international talent.

LEADERSHIP

Lead, coach, and oversee the professional development of the Recruiting Operations team, inspiring them to achieve excellence in delivering recruiting services.

Foster a collaborative, results-oriented team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Motivate team members, ensuring they have the support to meet high expectations.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

Develop and manage procedures for recruiting events, interviews, and job postings to ensure seamless operations.

Maintain leadership and deep knowledge of MBA recruiting processes, staying current on trends and best practices.

Manage the master recruiting calendar, aligning academic schedules, career activities, and co-curricular events across all degree programs.

Design and manage processes for facilities, parking, catering, hotels, and technical support for employers.

Communicate clear expectations around recruiting processes to students as part of their career search.

Leverage data-driven decision-making by deploying systems and technology that enhance communication and operational efficiency.

Track, analyze, and report on metrics related to recruiting success, continuously seeking ways to improve outcomes.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Build and maintain positive relationships with employer representatives, including recruiting teams, HR professionals, and executive sponsors, by serving as the go-to resource for resolving challenges and ensuring smooth, efficient interactions.

Nurture long-term partnerships with employers, promoting Darden students as high-caliber talent for their organizations.

Work closely with multiple stakeholders at UVA and Darden to ensure collaboration and synergy across the institution's efforts.

Education and Professional Experience:

Master's degree and four years of relevant experience required.

Background in early-career or MBA recruiting, career services (including employer relations), talent acquisition, human resources or within a student services or operations position at a university strongly preferred.

Demonstrated leadership experience, with a track record of inspiring and motivating individuals and teams.

Proven ability to collaborate across departments, make data-driven decisions, and execute efficiently at both strategic and operational levels.

Experience with CRM systems and career management platforms such as 12twenty, Symplicity, or similar preferred.

Aptitude for learning new technologies and utilizing data to tell a compelling story.

Strong relationship management skills, including communication and advocacy, with an ability to connect with diverse stakeholders.

Flexibility, adaptability, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Work Location & Hours:

This is an in-office position based at Darden's Goodwin Family Grounds in Charlottesville, VA. Some travel is required to meet with employers and to attend events at Darden's Sands Family Grounds in Rosslyn, VA, as well as other conferences and off-site activities. Occasional evening and weekend work during peak recruiting seasons (2-3 weekends per year) is expected.
