Role Summary
In this position, you will develop battery structure components that meet all key team, customer, and government requirements while interactively working with all areas of the company to find optimal solutions that meet all department needs.
Responsibilities
DESIGN: Design & deliver a best-in-class HV Battery Structural Enclosure/Components maintaining consideration of,Crash, safety, thermal, durability, NVH, water/dust ingress, EMC performance metricsGeneral build feasibility, DFM/DFA, dimensional variation, and material, commodity and joining nuance.Design for service, product reliability and product sustainabilityContribute thoughtful critique and guidance grounded in first principles in the team.COLLABORATE: Represent design in collaboration with multiple business functions across the company to arrive at an optimized, well-balanced product.NAVIGATE: Navigate through the product development lifecycle - appropriately managing risk within aggressive program timelines utilizing component, subsystem validation and verification.Qualifications
B.S degree in mechanical engineering5+ Years of Automotive Experience in HV Battery structure development (or equivalent experience in industries with HV battery development I.e Consumer electronics, biomedical, aerospace)Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.Knowledgeable in EV vehicle systems, automotive design and high/low voltage electrical system integration. Direct experience preferred.A working knowledge of Engineering materials prevalent in Automotive Industry (Alloy Steels, Aluminum, Plastic, composites, etc.)A working knowledge of manufacturing methods such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, metal casting, extrusion, CNC machining and rapid prototypingA working knowledge of joining technologies such as fastening, SPR, FSW and RSWExperience in high volume manufacturing preferred. Conversant with DFMEA principles and execution.CAD proficient - ideally within Catia V5 / V6 / 3DX, though other equivalent systems will be considered. Advanced surfacing and solid modelling expertise is preferred, along with strong CAD structure/organizational skills.Ability to perform structural hand-calculations and FEA studiesConduct tolerance stack-up analyses for parts and mating interfaces to inform components' GD&T and manufacturing requirements and drawing creation to ASME Y14.5 standards.Travel to vendors and Rivian plant(s) for issue identification and resolution and general production support.Ability to lead and conduct component and Sub-system testing, develop testing methods and systems, analyze data, and provide engineering input.Model and oversee fabrication of tools and fixtures to aid component assembly, lab validation studies, and part gaging.
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range Palo Irvine based Applicants: $107,800 -$134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, and other factors permitted by law).Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
