Cloudscape, the AWS Design System, is looking for a Senior Visual Designer to join the team and drive the visual language for Amazon Web Services (AWS) products and beyond. AWS customers range from Netflix to your next-door neighbor. The Cloudscape team is responsible for unlocking the power of AWS by creating a shared and consistent design foundation, a library of re-usable user interface components, and a set of tools that allow AWS teams to build interfaces using modern web standards, while complying with usability and accessibility guidelines. Key job responsibilities
Create and maintain visual design artifacts such as high-fidelity mockups, flows and diagrams, illustrations, motion specifications, icons, and layouts.
Help to define and advance the visual language of the Design System, which includes colors, typography, layout, illustration, iconography, and motion.
Advocate for best practices in design execution both within our team as well as the larger AWS design community.
Lead the design of useful, usable, and desirable design patterns in a team environment. Work with leadership in design planning and goal creation.
Understand customers and their needs through market analysis, customer research, and feedback.
Facilitate the design process, present and iterate on design solutions.
Craft, pitch, and validate long-term design strategies.
Continually iterate and evolve the way we design for and learn from our customers.
Chart a course for yourself and others in ambiguous situations. Mentor and develop designers within your own organization and beyond.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years of design experience
Have an available online portfolio
Experience art directing motion designers, illustrators, writers and content creators
Experience in visual design demonstrated through design concepts, case studies, documentation, mockups and style guides
Experience partnering with technical partners for design implementation
Knowledge of typographic and brand design principles
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on Design Systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
