JOB SCOPE

Charter is proud to have a network that provides service to millions of users across the country. The Network Engineering team is responsible for the implementation of approved network architecture and designs. The Optical Network Engineer IV leads implementation and maintains the optical transport network via planned projects, maintenances, as well as troubleshoot break/fix issues that occur. Performs network monitoring using various vendor management tools (Nokia NFM-T, Cisco EPNM and CTC, Infinera DNA, etc), documents alarms, and serves as a point of escalation during break/fix conditions on an on-call basis. Utilizes MSO based tools and ticketing systems including Remedy and JIRA, to create Methods of Procedure (MOP) and change tickets to implement growth or fix actions on the following vendor optical platforms: Cisco, Infinera, Nokia, and Ciena.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the implementation of approved optical network architecture and designs Integrates communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution Review network planning, network architecture design, and engineering before execution Adhere to corporate design standards and develops network enhancements Leads in the development and documentation of technical standards/training and implements approved methods of procedure across DWDM architecture Works on one or more projects as a team leader Provides optical tier of escalation support across organization during critical break/fix scenarios Proactively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience Evaluate technology and service enhancements related to products, services and customer experience Leverages subject matter expertise to efficiently manage multiple complex optical network enhancement projects Performs other duties as requested by supervisor

BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience Minimum six (6) years of Data Network Experience ADDITIONAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbal and written Intermediate knowledge of network devices; routing and switching hardware Intermediate knowledge in IPv4 and IPv6 IP Addressing Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Physical Media (Multimode Fiber, Single mode Fiber, UTP, etc.) and transport technologies and protocols Advanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations Advanced knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio Expert knowledge of DWDM optical networks and corresponding operational requirements targeting Infinera, Cisco, and Nokia Expert knowledge of optical tools and Element Management systems Experience with optical network design, protocols, and topologies TCP/IP and the OSI Model Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to solve complex issues Expert skills in methodical, logical and process driven troubleshooting Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technologies/products quickly PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of company products and service Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Cisco, Infinera, Ciena, Nokia) General field experience with optical troubleshooting tools - OTDR, OSA, OSLM Optical Networking based skillset with general understanding of routing platforms and protocols Optical Networking Certifications - OC-A, OC-P, OC-C, OPT-200, etc Working knowledge of MSO based tools and ticketing systems - Examples: Remedy, NetBrain, Optical EMS, JIRA Ability to participate in n on-call rotation and perform nighttime maintenance windows

The base pay for this position generally is between $88,200.00 and $156,600.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
