is looking for a
Design Team Leader
to join our Team! We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. The
Design Team Leader
is responsible for leadership, organization, morale, technical and administrative guidance of his or her assigned group/team. Her/his group may focus on a particular discipline (e.g. civil/site, traffic, structural, construction engineering and inspection, etc.) , client (CDOT, IDOT, Tollway, etc.) or market (e.g. municipal engineering, secondary education, a geographic region/branch office, etc.). S/he oversees the efforts of the group to ensure delivery of high-quality engineering services in a timely, efficient and profitable manner with an emphasis on client satisfaction. S/he also works closely with office operational leadership and is responsible for planning and execution of project delivery, client management, contract management, business development and project pursuit for their discipline/client/market.
Depending on the size and complexity of their discipline/client/market, s/he may serve as a Project Manager and Project Engineer on projects for her/his discipline/client/market. This position, working closely with the Vice President of Operations or Office Operational Leadership, is responsible for professional development and talent management of his or her group members. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:
Includes, but not limited to, the following:
Oversees and provides direction to staff in insuring delivery of all project elements (plans, specs, permits and reports etc.) are technically accurate.Assists in conducting quality control reviews, constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.Ensures project delivery team secures executed contracts, Notice to Proceed and Subconsultant Agreements prior to inception of project services.Ensures project delivery team safeguards firm's exposure against risks associated with scope and scope creep, fees and schedule by actively monitoring them and promptly communicating deviations to the clients.Ensures project delivery team regularly monitors clients' project success goals and maintains consistent client communication to keep them abreast of these goals.Assists in reviewing contracts to safeguard firms exposure against risk associated with scope, fees and schedule along with contract language which may cause unreasonable and uninsurable liability to the firm.Develops or approves scope, fees and schedule developed by themselves or Project Managers during contract negotiations.Works closely with Vice President of Operations or Office Operational Leadership in assigning and securing required technical and other tangible resources for project delivery.Prepares their Market's staffing, resource, backlog and revenue projections to anticipate and plan appropriate actions to ensure resources are in alignment with the needs.Regularly coordinates and updates Vice President of Operations or Office Operational Leadership regarding the technical and financial performance of the group.Ensures IEI policies and procedures are adhered and works closely with Vice President of Operations or Office Operational Leadership and HR in recruiting, hiring, firing, rewarding and disciplining staff.Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or approved equivalent. Typically possesses 8+ years of post-undergraduate experience.Understanding of risk management policies and procedures of the A/E industry.Other Qualifications:
Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations
Active Registered Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer required. Additional registrations and accreditations (i.e. LEED AP, Certified Floodplain Manager, PTOE etc.) are desired.Other licensure or registration (must require Continuing Education to remain active) may be considered in lieu Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer licensure.Knowledge and Skills:
Marketing and Business Development
Develops and fosters relationship with assigned clients and agencies which results in winning work.Develop and deploy business development strategies which results in group's growth in alignment with firm's growth strategies.Meets regularly with existing clients to discuss current projects, evaluate performance and identify other business opportunities.Leads preparation of technical proposals and other marketing efforts for their Market in a timely manner.Proactively participates in industry and community functions and activities that promote IEI's visibility and brand.Talent Management and Development
Develop group, office and firm's strategic capabilities and capacity by attracting and recruiting staff.Works in collaboration with staff in identifying and actively promoting professional development of staff to meet personal, group and firms' professional development goals.Soft Skills

Working Conditions
IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.Usually works in outside weather conditions.
