Summary This position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System within the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) line. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that durable medical equipment (DME) is distributed to Veterans and services serviced by PSAS. Responsibilities Major duties include but are not limited to: Receives and catalogues incoming durable medical equipment (DME) orders in the electronic health record management (EHRM) system Identifies, prepares, and ships DME orders requested by VHA providers intended to outpatient Veteran patients Manages PSAS secondary inventory location by maintaining and organizing physical storage location within PSAS service line Reviews numerous computer output listings in the performance of research and identification of supplies as well as prepares system inquires and interpret the responses Receives non-expendable equipment and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area Position coordinates receiving problems such as substitutions, incorrect quantities, with the appropriate supervisor Distributes items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized system of record systems to include but not limited to APAT, VistA or similar NX inventory management systems Delivers equipment in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring equipment and material delivered are in operational condition Deliveries will be to clinical partners both within and outside of PSAS, but within the local medical facility Processes receipt and turn-in transaction to record in the equipment system of record and account for incoming DME Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/04/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: coordinate and interact with various clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and resolved; store supplies and materials in accordance with established guidelines; utilize computerized inventory systems and other databases; and perform general administrative duties such as communicating orally or in writing to inquiries, answering telephone calls and cataloging orders. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must be obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. If you are qualifying on education, transcripts are required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Questions about physical demands or environmental factors may be addressed at the time of evaluation or examination. The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Working Environment: Work is performed throughout the HCS and supported catchment areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments.
