MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a highly skilled Defensive Cyberspace Operations Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading the integrated Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) engineering planning, requirements definition, and capability design for the Guam Defense System (GDS). The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a Cyberspace Domain Integrating System – Guam, enhancing cyber situational awareness and defense capabilities.
The job is a Principal Step, Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL-based position; this work location is on-site and required to effectively foster staff and government relationships and shape the direct work program.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Lead the development of a GDS DCO capability roadmap to enhance cyber situational awareness, intrusion detection, anomaly identification, and incident response.
Guide the development of system architecture, specifications, and technical standards for the Cyberspace Domain Integrating System – Guam.
Coordinate architecture and engineering integration with existing processes and workflows.
Synchronize efforts through various teams and working groups, including Boards, Integrated Planning Teams, and Tiger Teams.
Design the Cyberspace Domain Integrating System – Guam with capabilities such as Active Unified Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)/ Security Information and Event Management (SOAR), Endpoint Security (EDR), Identity Management, and more.
Develop System Interface Control Documents for data flow between GDS DCO Systems and the MDA Tier II Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP).
Identify and implement standardized active defense tools and analytic capabilities for situational awareness and incident response.
Coordinate with the MDA DCO Chief Architect to ensure full integration with the MDA DCO Architecture.
Contribute to the GDS DCO Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
Facilitate program integration across multiple engineering teams and organizations to ensure cohesive and unified project execution.
Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or similar technical degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. This position requires ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.
Expertise in Defensive Cyberspace Operations Engineering.
Experience in system architecture and capability design.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity tools and technologies, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Information and Event Management (SOAR), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), and Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
Ability to work collaboratively with various teams and stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Active Secret Clearance
This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the Missile Defense System and related cybersecurity requirements.
Experience in developing and implementing cybersecurity roadmaps and standards.
Knowledge of threat intelligence and adversary emulation techniques.
Master’s Degree in engineering or similar field and with at least 10 years of experience
Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$168,500 - $210,500 - $252,500 Annual
