Description
This position is for a Network Technician in Beltsville, MD to support the Vanguard 2.2.1 program. The Vanguard 2.2.1 program provides transparent, interconnected systems and security support for the Department of State (DOS). This program supports the DOS to successfully carry out its U.S. foreign policy mission by providing enterprise architecture design, engineering operations and maintenance support services for desktop computers, servers, networks, firewalls, and enterprise applications.
This role is hybrid and requires 3-4 days/week onsite. The shift is 630am-3pm.
Description of Duties:
Evaluates, designs, documents, installs, implements, tests, and performs problem isolations and resolution, and monitors tunes, sets standards and maintains a range of network components and systems.
Performs these functions across some, but not all, physical media, Operating Systems, File Systems, protocol stacks and network components.
Provides client consulting and training on the design and use of the network systems and architectures.
Plans, researches, evaluates and recommends new storage area network equipment and related technologies.
Uses monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to troubleshoot and isolate problems, gauge performance and activity.
Devises solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.
May develop and execute contingency plans for network related hardware failures, including isolated and major outages.
Provides internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, management and departmental clients.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
AA Degree in related discipline and one (1) years related experience; OR, High School and two (2) years related experience.
Intermediate experience in one or more of the following: Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst routing and switching, data center cabling maintenance
Experience supporting the configuration and maintenance of various network hardware and software, primarily Cisco catalyst and Cisco Nexus switching and routing technologies
Firsthand experience in developing and providing quality assurance review of engineering change orders relating to the replacement or enhancement of perimeter security hardware and software
Experienced with performing root cause analysis, risk identification, and risk mitigation
Knowledge of cabling standards, fiber optic and copper cable termination.
Experienced with network monitoring devices such as HP Openview, Nagios, Zenoss, NeuralStar or other similar monitoring tools
Required Clearance:
US Citizenship.
Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
Desired Experience, Skills, & Certifications:
ITIL ® Foundation certification
Certifications: Network +, Cisco CCNA, Cisco CCNP or equivalent, BICSI Certification
Familiarity with DoS environment (data and voice networks, IT security systems, policies and procedures), Foreign Affairs Handbooks (FAHs), Foreign Affairs Manuals (FAMs)
Interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively, self-awareness, and excellent written and oral communications.
Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
