This is a Hybrid role based out of Hub located in Loveland, Colorado

The Target Pay Range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000 annually. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Hardware Engineering Manager will lead development and engineering improvement efforts for new and on-market veterinary diagnostic products within the Antech In-House Diagnostics organization. The role will include management and growth of a small team of engineers working in parallel with an embedded software development team. The group is responsible for small-footprint opto-mechanical instrumentation and consumables. Engineering activities include both in-house design and development as well as management or support of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) teams or product development firms. Direct interaction with contract manufacturing firms is also expected.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prioritize diverse activities for a team of engineers supporting on-market products, new product development, contract manufacturing, and internal R&D.

Manage multiple parallel activities ranging from customer-driven troubleshooting to operations support to new product development.

Gradually build out a team of engineers with mechanical, electronic, and optical engineering expertise, building a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Foster the growth of staff engineers, providing technical mentoring as well as building skills in efficiency and effective management.

Serve as technical lead on cross-functional teams, providing subject matter expertise for project groups that include R&D, Commercial, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Technical Support functions.

Interface with R&D, Operations, and Process Development groups to ensure critical business objectives are consistently met.

Partner with Project Management and Quality Assurance to deliver technical innovations under Antech’s Stage Gate development process.

Identify and implement technical solutions to meet cost, quality, and delivery objectives.

Investigate and resolve technical obstacles efficiently and effectively, handling material non-conformances, CAPAs, etc.

Coordinate technical evaluations and support of OEM development partners.

Lead new product development efforts as needed.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience with a technical degree.

Demonstrated skill and a minimum of 7 years of experience managing engineering projects, ideally from concept to commercialization.

Demonstrated skill and a minimum of 7 years of experience managing, developing, and mentoring direct employees, including responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and performance reviews.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple parallel projects and effectively balance competing priorities in a growing organization.

Demonstrated skill with SolidWorks (or equivalent) for design of small parts, assemblies, optical subsystems, thermal systems, and motion control.

Outstanding communication skills including effective meeting management, written, and formal oral communication, as well as productive informal and spontaneous communications in the workplace.

Knowledge of stage gate and / or agile design and devlopment methodologies, including experience with requirements definition, management, verification and validation practices.

Ability to lead design and development activities such as Risk Management, Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.

Background operating within a Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485).

Product verification strategy and testing experience, including selection and management of test houses.

Knowledge of engineering design regulatory compliance (e.g., RoHS, REACH, EMC/EMI, NRTL, Safety, etc.) desired.

Demonstrated skills with electronics design tools (e.g., Altium) will be considered favorably.

Demonstrated skill interfacing with embedded software will be considered favorably.

Optical engineering background and experience with optical systems will be considered favorably.

Ability to build positive relationships within all levels of the organization.

Healthy sense of urgency.

Must be comfortable with change.

Travel

Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
