Summary: Assists, teaches, coaches, and supports individuals with disabilities in preparation for job application and interviews and in obtaining, learning, and performing job duties in a community employment role. Matches individual’s skills, abilities, and needs with the right job, employer, and work environment. Teaches and models social, interpersonal, and job skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Engages in the development of community employment jobs for individuals with disabilities.
Assesses participants’ interests, availability, abilities, and skills to match with comparable local job market openings. Ensure job placements are compatible with participant choice, needs, and support expectations of the employer.
Teaches job duties/responsibilities, job retention skills, and appropriate social and interpersonal skills for relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and customers (as necessary) utilizing verbal prompts, modeling, gestures, and physical simulation and assistance.
Teaches job skills to the participant in a manner appropriate to empower them to reach independent job functioning.
Maintains complete and accurate documentation in a timely manner, as required by contract with funding agent and TVS policies and standards to ensure payment for services provided.
Expected flexibility to be able to work in the varied work environments in which participants are placed and perform the actual job duties as necessary while providing direct training to participants on the job.
Has physical ability to stoop, bend, twist, reach, push, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, stand for an entire shift, mobility to get in and out of vehicles and assist participants in doing so, work in various weather conditions and in a variety of work environments and settings.
Communicates, analyzes, instructs, evaluates, and uses interpersonal skills working with the participant, guardian and/or caregiver, when applicable, the employer, funding agent, TVS supervisor and team.
Provides follow-up with participant, employer, TVS team, and funding agent (typically Vocational Rehabilitation counselor).
Provides intermittent, short-term re-training as needed when there are additional duties, changes to the job, or problems have occurred.
Conducts community-based assessments which include community job shadowing, tours, and job sampling. After completion, compile a summary report with recommendations for support and service needs.
Functions as a liaison between employers and participants and maintains ongoing communication with TVS supervisor and team, Employment and Independence for Persons with Disabilities (formerly Vocational Rehabilitation), other service providers as appropriate, participant’s guardian, caregivers, and/or family members.
Makes or arranges job and work site modifications/accommodations where necessary.
Acts as a professional advocate for individuals with disabilities.
Assures and maintains compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards. Laws, rules, and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field, special education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Have experience working with adults with disabilities.
Have time management and organization skills with the ability to work a flexible schedule according to participants’ training needs and work schedule, which can include some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Possess basic computer proficiency.
Have a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Acceptable background and sex offender registry check, negative drug test, and no substantial findings on the NC Health Care Registry .
