Position Summary

The Director of Safety, Security and Operations is responsible for strategic and tactical management of the operations in the areas of safety, security, risk, traffic management, food services, and emergency preparedness for both campuses. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and works closely with other internal department heads and external agencies to ensure the highest standard of security and safety across both campuses at all times.

The Director strives to provide a safe, efficient, and secure environment for both students and staff by providing strategic direction and leadership for safety, risk, critical incidents, and security programs across the school. This critical role sets the strategic direction for the school's risk and security infrastructure and develops long-range goals and objectives aligned with the school's vision, mission, values, and strategic plans. The Director proactively engages school and department leaders, and school communities in developing safety & risk priorities, defining roles and responsibilities, building capability and creating systems of accountability to ensure safe and secure school climates and workplace environments, as well as collaborating with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency responders as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Plan, organize, control and direct school safety services and emergency preparedness activities according to school standards and federal and state regulations.Advise administrators, campus security, and appropriate staff on security and protective services provided by department programs and personnel; organize and conduct related in-service training, seminars and workshops.Develop and oversee development of operational guidelines for School Safety and Emergency Preparedness; formulate and coordinate implementation of school safety goals and objectives.Recommend and develop school safety plans, security and emergency preparedness programs, fire prevention, safety and security policies, and standard operating procedures; research and report to administration on legislation, issues and trends in school safety and security laws and trends.Makes recommendations to senior administrators on enhancements or best practices to maintain a safe school environment.Provide functional supervision of contracted campus security.Oversee security operations on a 24/7 basis to respond to emergencies, ensure security for planned and unplanned school business and special activities as needed.Plan, coordinates, and evaluates emergency drills, functional tests, scenario discussions, and simulation exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and communication systems.Monitor community health trends, attend meetings, and ensure PPE and protocols are current based on trends and updates.Schedule and facilitate Safety committees and provide topics for consideration in safety meetings.Plans and implements disaster response and crisis management activities for the school; develops and writes standard operating procedures and continuity of operations programs to be used in response to disasters or emergencies, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and other natural disasters, health emergencies, outbreaks, gas leaks, environmental hazards, and extraordinary catastrophic events.Survey school sites to assess conditions and recommend improvements in safety and security foremployees, students, facilities and equipment.

Oversees and coordinates safety program activities; ensures compliance with OSHA and related local, state, and federal regulations; conducts safety inspections; responds to complaints of safety hazards; oversees and/or conducts safety training and committees; reviews and updates all OSHA related programs and policies as necessary.Oversees, reviews, and maintains the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) for the School; working with Human Resources, investigates and analyzes incident reports and complaints involving work-related injuries and illness; prepares reports noting hazards, violations, and accidents; recommends measures to prevent recurrence.Develop, implement, and maintain an Emergency Response Plan for violence against students, educators, and visitors to campus.Organizes, facilitates, and maintains training programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of workplace hazards; assists in the instruction of staff and provides specific on-site occupational safety and health training; may coordinate, schedule, and arrange for off-site training through specific courses, seminars, and workshops.Maintains an inventory of all School vehicles to ensure they are included in the School's insurance coverage.Ensures work environments are adequate and safe.Oversees parking operations, including issuing parking decalsManage and engage the Food Service for the schoolConducts risk management audits and asset loss investigations.Coordinates with local law enforcement and safety staff as required to support and/or conduct investigations and prosecutions.Drafts and submits reports and work orders related to fire, safety, and security operations.Supervise and evaluates performance of assigned staff; assigns and reviews work and participates in the selection of new personnel.Performs other related duties as assigned.Knowledge of:

Safety requirements in a K-12 Environment.Fire Safety and related codes.OSHA requirements and occupational safety.Principles, concepts and terminology of emergency management and response.Emergency preparedness and response standardsPrinciples and practices of safety and security management.Community and governmental organizational and resources.Principles of training and education.Issues related to Emergency Preparedness for natural and human caused disasters, such as earthquakes, hazardous materials incidents, civil defense, and floods.Principles and techniques used in the development and utilization of emergency response and disaster preparedness systems, including but not limited to the Incident Command System (ICS), Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), State Emergency Management Systems (SEMS), and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).Principles of effective written communication, including the preparation of clear and concise reports, documentation and revisions to procedures and plans.Techniques and practices of effective implementation and management of budgetary and other management procedures.Ability to:

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of COE leadership, staff and stakeholders, and representatives of regulatory agencies.Prepare professional reports and develop program materials and plans.Maintain effective public relations with public safety organizations, government officials and others.Provide training on emergency preparedness and ICS.Analyze administrative problems and conduct studies in disaster planning.Maintain records and controls and prepare correspondence and reports.Work independently to identify needs and emergency management system deficits and recommend improvements of emergency management planning operations.Use independent judgment and initiative.Respond to emergencies on an on-call 24/7 basis.Work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.Qualifications:

Bachelor's degreeExtensive and diversified background with at least 5 years of related experienceOperational knowledge of Google Suite, MS Word, MS Excel and knowledge of work order systems.Safety and security experience requiredAdvanced training or certification in safety and security preferredWork in K-12 school setting preferredValid CA Driver's LicenseBilingual in Spanish, preferredWorking Conditions:

Employees work in an office, classroom, or outdoor environment with moderate to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperature conditions, inclement weather conditions, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, cleaning agents and chemicals, fumes, dust, and odors, and may be exposed to blood and body fluids while performing cleaning duties.Physical Requirements:

Mobility to work in and around standard Bentley offices and buildings; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch,grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb and descend ladders; to operate varied hand and power tools and custodial equipment.Strength and stamina to perform medium to heavy physical work; to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.Vision to inspect assigned work areas and to read printed materials.Standing and walking for extended periods of time.Finger dexterity to operate equipment.

Pay Range:

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The starting salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position ranges from $110,000 - $140,000.
