Job Description

As this is a hybrid role, working out of our Creative Studios in Westlake, Ohio, we will focus on candidates currently residing in north east Ohio.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Database Administrator position is responsible for providing tier 1, 2 and 3 database management and administration support for all Oracle databases including an on-call rotation for critical issues. They are expected to be familiar with Oracle database architecture, logical and physical design, automation, documentation, installs, Linux, shell scripting, backup & recovery concepts, and database performance. The Database Administrator must have good analytical, verbal, and written skills. This individual will report directly to the Team Lead of Web Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for Oracle database backups, design, development, testing, and performance tuning. • Conducts after-action analyses when things go wrong and plans to prevent the same problem in the future. • Debugs database performance problems, competent with profiling tools and documents the results and findings • Team-wide subject matter expert • Identifies subtle or obscure impacts of proposed changes • Creates estimates for tasks • Finishes tasks within the expected time. • Delivers results without rework from other engineers • Learns new things and applies that knowledge to achieve goals • Understands and maintains underlying storage (SAN,NAS,NFS, etc.) and database interaction (eg, ORACLE ASM) • Audits databases for access and security (via built-in software abilities or external tools) • Maintains database access control and privileges • Performs capacity planning (space and performance) • Advanced understanding of specific schema/meta data architecture as it relates to the various business units • Plans for disaster recovery (advanced backup/recovery scenarios) • Migrates data among databases and to external sources • Expert in SQL (general) and 2+ database specific variants • Understands the concepts of replication and HA (knows specifics of implementing it in at least 1 vendor specific platform) • Able to enforce database integrity (triggers, RI, constraints) • Write basic stored procedures/functions/triggers • Understands patching requirements (security and maintenance releases) and maintains patch schedule • Understands basics of database design and modeling (physical and logical) (should be able to create and maintain a schema/database for at least 1 vendor specific platform) • Champion process, documentation and operational improvements and best practices • Provide 24 x 7 support for both planned and unplanned activities to minimize disruption to the business • Understands basic Linux commands and operations • Understanding basic networking tasks • Being able to architecturally see the big picture as to how the database and other technologies come together

Experience Required:

Required Length & Type of Experience: • 5+ years in a large, enterprise client-server environment • 5+ years Oracle DBA experience • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff • Demonstrate time management and organizational skills • Demonstrate ability to work productively in teams • Ability and desire to learn new technical skills quickly • Strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to resolve technical problems on your own • Familiarity with backups, Disaster Recovery (DR) and restoration systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN, ASM, Erwin, DBArtisan, SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer, Veritas Cluster Server, Pure Storage, NetApp • Knowledge of Linux shell scripting • Knowledge of Python and Perl are a plus • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with technical and business partners • Strong written, verbal and presentation abilities • Flexible, positive and team-oriented attitude • Able to handle dynamic and high-pressure environment with focus on success and productivity • Demonstrate excellent analytical abilities and critical thinking • Basic knowledge of information security areas • As new technologies emerge, the Senior Database Administrator is expected to learn these technologies very quickly and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with corporate systems/infrastructure

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Must be able to install, move and uninstall server hardware, not exceeding 50 pounds • In emergency situations, must be able to work extended hours, potentially up to 18 hours at a time

Education Required:

B.S. Information Systems in computer science, management information systems, or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.
