The SPI leads ATP-Bio's innovation ecosystem, membership program, partner recruitment and engagement, and manages ATP-Bio's Industry Advisory Board (IAB). The SPI Director is also responsible for identifying key opportunities or collaborations for the Center's innovation ecosystem, advancing ATP-Bio technologies towards successful commercialization, and strategizing how membership stakeholders support ATP-Bio's impact on society. The SPI Director collaborates with other leaders that focus on convergent research, workforce development, and ethics/public policy. The SPI Director reports to the Director. Key Responsibilities: ATP-Bio Innovation Ecosystem (30%) Lead, develop, and implement IE pillar strategic goals Design and implement engagement strategies with industry, government, non-profit stakeholders around ATP-Bio societal impact goals (healthcare, biodiversity, food supply/sustainability) In partnership with the research pillar, observe research goals and opportunities and create connections with potential collaborators, applications; target large projects by creating teams with university and industry. Support and contribute to thought leadership on ATP-Bio's sustainability plan Identify, collect, monitor, and track objectives, outcomes, milestones, and metrics Contribute to the Center's communication strategy & plan Communicate Center's progress to ATP-Bio leadership, institutional administration, community, members and NSF ATP-Bio Membership Program: Recruitment and Engagement (40%) Work actively to recruit and retain industrial and other partners by networking and actively seeking opportunities for industrial participation in research, development, commercialization, and educational activities of the Center. Promote ATP-Bio to partner institutions, potential and actual industry sponsors, and attendees at various conferences and trade shows. Organize and lead periodic meetings with industry and Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) members. Facilitate IAB activities including project and proposal evaluation, ATP-Bio SWOT analysis, collecting feedback on ATP-Bio's convergent research plan. Contribute towards developing a strategy for ATP-Bio financial sustainability through ATP-Bio's membership program Promote ATP-Bio and its research at conferences and meetings Commercialization & Tech Transfer (10%) Identify key commercial applications and commercialization pathways of ATP-Bio technologies. Assist in the identification of new IP and the formation of new start-ups. Work with the Tech Transfer Offices (TTOs) at the member universities and faculty in filing disclosures, technology transfer agreements, and licensing agreements. Support licensing negotiations in conjunction with industrial partners and ATP-Bio core member universities TTOs. Incorporate/embed TTO representatives into ATP-Bio's commercialization goals. ATP-Bio IE Integration (10%) Collaborate withATP-Bio Workforce Development leadership to facilitate student/industry relations through internships, student participation in joint projects with industry, career seminars, career placement, training, workshops, etc. Collaborate with ATP-Bio Ethics & Public Policy (EPP) leadership to support the ethical translation of ATP-Bio technologies. Adopt ATP-Bio's Diversity and Culture of Inclusion strategy, best practices, and recommendations. ATP-Bio Administration (10%) Contribute towards annual reporting, data collection, site visit and annual meeting planning and coordination Processing membership contracts Interacting with sponsored projects offices and tech comm teams for data and output verification Developing or contributing towards ATP-Bio Standard perating Procedures Preparing communications and promotions, exhibiting Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, biology, physics, or closely related field Working knowledge of intellectual property issues including patenting, licensing and commercialization 10 years' experience in corporate research and technology development Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent organizational and project management skills Business or relevant industrial experience Preferred Qualifications: Masters or doctoral degree in engineering, biology, physics, or closely related field Experience with technology-based start-up companies or related entrepreneurial experience Familiarity with range of relevant industries and technologies About the Department The NSF Center for Advanced Technologies for the Preservation of Biological Systems (ATP-Bio) vision is to stop biological time allowing living products to be readily available across the globe to advance healthcare, biodiversity, and food supply and sustainability.
