As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks qualified applicants for the position of the Area Coordinator who will promote our Catholic Franciscan Mission & Identity through their responsibility for the overall administration of one or more residential community and supervision of the Resident Assistants working in those communities. Area Coordinators are responsible for shaping the environment and experiences by providing services and programs aligned with the institution's strategic goals for a vibrant, dynamic on-campus living experience. Thus, Area Coordinators specifically help create and support activities that are designed to enhance the retention and success of students. Area Coordinators are full-time, entry-level, live-in, 12-month employees with paid benefits. This position will report to the Assistant Director of Residential and Commuter Life.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policiesDemonstrate cultural competence in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, ideology, religion, national origin, and other areas of diversitySupervise, train, and evaluate 7-17 Resident AssistantsProvide leadership of hall community development through programmatic means and one-on-one contact within the context of the residential community development plan to provide a welcoming and engaging experience utilizing knowledge of student developmentInitiate, plan, supervise, and evaluate programming activities consistent with the goals and objectives of the Office of Residential and Commuter LifeParticipate in an on-call duty rotation for all campus housing units (1,200 beds)Manage student conduct by meeting with students who have violated university and/or hall policies according to the Code of Student Rights and ResponsibilitiesServe as a first-responder to residents in need, referring to appropriate offices as necessary during business hoursRespond and assist in crisis and emergency situations, and complete appropriate follow up while on callAssume leadership of Residential and Commuter Life projects or processes throughout the year including student staff recruitment, selection, training, recognition and special eventsPerform all administrative duties required, including responsibly tracking student information for hall openings and closings, managing the building key system, coordinating room changes, and facilitating the conduct hearing processInterpret and implement Marian University and Office of Residential and Commuter Life objectives, policies, rules, and procedures for student staff and residentsParticipate in departmental and divisional professional development activitiesCollaborate closely with campus partners in the Counseling Center, Campus Police Department, Student Activities, First-Year Experience, the Personalized Learning Center, and University Ministry to connect residents to on-campus resources and provide residents with supportArea Coordinator communities are revisited each year and community-specific ancillary assignments may change (e.g. Freshman Class Board Advisor, Summer Camps and Conferences Lead)Fulfill other general duties assigned by the Office of Residential and Commuter Life, Division of Student Success and Engagement, and/or Marian University

Required Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Proficiency in the Microsoft suite (specifically, Word and Excel), excellent time management skills, and attention to detail are a must to be successful in this role.A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training is required.A master's degree in higher education/student affairs is preferred, not required.Previous experience with residence life, counseling, or related field is preferred, not required.Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, exhibited good-decision making skills, demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities are required.This is a 12-month, renewable live-in position.
