Component Release Engineer, Motors and Sensors
As a Component Release Engineer (CRE) specializing in motors and sensors, you will be responsible for the design, approval, and release of electrical components integral to our products, ensuring they meet stringent performance requirements while adhering to industry standards. In this role, you will create, maintain, and utilize the Knowledge Database (KDb) within your area of expertise, contributing to our Center of Expertise (COE).
You will collaborate closely with Product Engineers, Application Engineers, CAD Designers, and CAE Engineers within the Drivetrain and Morse Systems matrixed organization. Your responsibilities include leading the design and approval processes for motors and sensors, reviewing and approving work requests from Product Engineers, and coordinating design and analysis efforts with CAD and CAE teams to optimize component performance.
Additionally, you will work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Purchasing, and suppliers to facilitate efficient component release and integration, contributing to the enhancement of the Knowledge Database (KDb) by documenting lessons learned, best practices, and technical specifications in your domain. Your participation in cross-functional teams will be vital in addressing challenges and implementing innovative solutions in motor and sensor development.
Qualifications for this role include a Bachelor of Science degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, experience with motor and sensor technologies in an engineering or product development environment, and a strong understanding of design and release processes for electrical components. Excellent collaboration and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities
Have a good understanding of Automotive Driveline or Powertrain components
Good analytical skills for designing and analyzing components and sub-systems
Experience mathematically modeling static and dynamic systems using free body diagrams, kinematic equations, Simulink, Excel, or other engineering tools.
Thorough knowledge of component drawing requirements, including tolerances, GD&T, and their use in stack calculations
Create, maintain, and adhere to the Knowledge Database (KDb) in their area of expertise establishing the Center of Expertise (COE) for their component / subsystem.
Experience mathematically modeling static and dynamic systems using free body diagrams, kinematic equations, Simulink, Excel, or other engineering tools.
Perform engineering analysis and calculations on components and sub-systems and present rationale to program team
Issue CAE requests and provide direction as needed for analysis of systems and components.
Create and maintain component and/or sub-system DFMEAs and use them to define Special Characteristics
Create design work orders and provide direction to CAD as necessary to develop the product design. Approve and release engineering drawings.
Create ADVP&R to validate components and write lab work orders to direct technicians to conduct testing on components
Analyze components for wear and durability
Write test reports relating to the outcome of tests performed
Be a point of contact for technical discussions with Purchasing, suppliers, and Supplier Development Engineers
Create technical criteria for supplier selection and participate in the selection process
Support global engineering organization with knowledge and best practices
Promote component re-use through knowledge of the global component family
Review / Approve internal and external change requests
Provide technical support for component issues arising in validation or warranty
Provide cost reduction ideas for their respective component families
What we’re looking for
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years of related engineering work experience required
Experience in powertrain, driveline and/or 4WD systems is preferred
Experience in electrical components and/or connection systems is preferred
Experience and/or training in the development and maintenance of DFMEAs is required
Experience and/or training in Root Cause Analysis is preferred
Experience and/or training in APQP is preferred
Experience and/or training in DFM/DFA is preferred
Manufacturing and assembly process knowledge is preferred
Self-directed/self-motivated
Excellent drive for results with the ability to coordinate projects from start to completion
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Preferred/Software Hardware and General Training
MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project)
