Job DescriptionThe Director of Finance is in a senior leadership role, responsible for managing the organization's financial health and strategy and facilitating smooth overall operations. This individual ensures sound financial planning, accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective management of financial resources to support the organization's mission, programs, and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning:

Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's mission, goals, and objectives.Lead the annual budgeting process, including preparing and presenting budgets to the board of directors.Oversee long-term financial planning and forecasting to ensure sustainability and growth.Financial Management:

Manage all financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, grants management, and compliance.Ensure, in conjunction with our virtual bookkeeping organization, the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP or other relevant standards.Oversee cash flow management, investment strategies, and asset management.Grants and Fund Management:

Monitor and manage grants and funding, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and/or restrictions and accurate financial reporting.•Coordinate with program staff to develop budgets for grant proposals and ensure proper allocation of funds.Maintain relationships with granters and donors, providing necessary financial reports and updates.Leadership and Team Management:

Lead and develop the finance and operations team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Collaborate with other senior leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.Promote professional development and performance excellence within the finance department.Risk Management and Compliance:

Implement and maintain internal controls to protect organizational assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.Oversee audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management strategies.Stakeholder Engagement:

Serve as the primary financial liaison to the board of directors, finance committee, and other key stakeholders.Prepare and present financial reports, analyses, and recommendations to the board and executive team.Communicate the organization's financial status, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders transparently and effectively.Performance Analysis:

Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identify variances, and implement corrective actions.Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations for operational efficiency and effectiveness.Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure financial and operational performance.Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or CPA is highly preferred.Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles, with at least five years in a senior leadership position within the nonprofit sector.Prefer experience with organization of minimum $5 million annual budget or larger.Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and financial management.Proficiency in financial software and systems, including nonprofit accounting software.Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.Strong leadership and team management abilities.In-depth knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements for nonprofits.Exceptional communication and presentation skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making.This full-time position is virtual. Occasional travel to Pittsburgh headquarters and other sites will be required. Pittsburgh-located candidate would be ideal.
