General Information:
The Facilities Management department is accepting applications for an Interior Designer to provide comprehensive interior design services for capital and non-capital projects while working with university departments, faculty, staff, and project stakeholders. This position will also develop and maintain university standards and guidelines for interior furniture, finishes, signage, and maintain a materials library.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interior Design Services: -Selecting and specifying interior finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, etc., and coordination with stakeholders and vendors. -Working with procurement to ensure FFandE selection is compliant with university policies and procedures. -Verifying the proper installation/modification of buildings and other systems and components to ensure adequate operation, by inspecting reviewing/ evaluating the work performed by university and contract personnel for renovation projects. -Investigating and improving the efficiency, adequacy, and economy of existing, current, and future needs. Develop and Manage Minor Projects: -Providing excellent customer service to university faculty, staff, and stakeholders through effective communication, documentation, and reporting. -Serving as the university inspector for the review and acceptance of the contractor payment applications per the "Construction and Professionals Manual for Agencies". -Correcting operational problems to maintain environmental conditions by evaluating malfunctions and implementing solutions. Capitol Outlay/ Construction Project Inspection: -Reviewing contract documents, plans, specifications, and related material prepared by non-university architects/engineers and providing recommendations for compliance with Facilities Management standards, building code requirements, and generally accepted construction method practices. -Performing periodic site visits and coordinating inspections and results with other engineers as appropriate. -Assisting with the resolution of construction documents/site situations with other personnel when appropriate. Application and Enforcement of Policy: -Applying Facilities Management's policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations. -Enforcing the Unified Standards Building Code (VUSBC). -Enforcing annual permit policy. -Managing and maintaining the University's guidelines and standards for interior finishes, FFandE, and materials library.
Qualifications:
-Understanding building principles and concepts -Considerable knowledge of and experience in interior design and furniture specifications -Thorough knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) requirements and other applicable codes -Knowledge of the state-mandated Annual Permit Policy -Ability to work with minimal supervision to accomplish assigned goals -Ability to write detailed specifications -Ability to manage multiple tasks -Basic understanding of construction documents -Computer skills to include computer-aided design -Excellent oral and written communication -Driver's license Additional Considerations: -Extensive experience with interior design and construction -National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Certification as an interior designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia or the willingness to obtain the certification.
