Deskside Support Technician (Laptop Repair Technician)Your primary responsibility is to diagnose and fix hardware and software issues on laptops. This could involve troubleshooting problems related to the laptop's display, keyboard, touchpad, battery, ports, or internal components like the motherboard, RAM, and hard drives.
What you’ll be doing:
· Diagnosing hardware and software issues: You'll need to analyze symptoms reported by customers or observed during initial assessments to identify the root cause of laptop problems. Stays abreast of new and emerging information technologies as well as current trends.
· Repairing or replacing faulty components: Once you've identified the issue, you'll need to perform repairs or replace defective parts. This could involve tasks like replacing a cracked screen, swapping out a faulty hard drive, faulty keyboard or repairing a damaged power connector.
· Upgrading laptops: Some customers may seek to upgrade their laptops with additional RAM, a larger hard drive, or a faster processor. As a technician, you may need to perform these upgrades according to the customer's specifications.
· Operating system installation and troubleshooting: Installing or reinstalling operating systems like Windows, macOS, or Linux may be required to resolve certain issues. You may also need to troubleshoot operating system errors or compatibility issues.
· Providing technical support and guidance: You may need to interact with customers to explain the issues with their laptops, the steps you've taken to resolve them, and any recommendations for preventing future problems. Clear communication and excellent customer service skills are essential.
· Documenting repairs: Maintaining detailed records of the repairs you've performed, including parts replaced, software changes made, and diagnostic tests run, is important for tracking the history of each laptop and ensuring accountability.
· Staying updated on industry trends and technologies: As technology evolves, new laptops with different hardware configurations and software features are released. Keeping up-to-date with these developments and undergoing relevant training ensures you can effectively repair and troubleshoot modern laptops.
· Provides emergency on-call support, as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
What we’re looking for:
· 1-3 years related experience.
· A strong understanding of computer laptop hardware is essential. This includes knowledge of components such as CPUs, RAM, hard drives, graphics cards, and motherboards. Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques and diagnostic tools is also important.
· Demonstrated success interacting with members in varying levels of an organization, including Executives.
· IT Customer service experience, preferred.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Windows 7 & 10
Bonus Points:
· CompTIA A+ certification, preferred.
· Network+, Windows certifications in the Microsoft Certified Professional Program; any other approved information technology certification are helpful, but not required.
Education:
· High school diploma or equivalent
