The Public Works Department, Construction Management Division, consists of a select group of architects, engineers, and construction professionals that direct the planning, design and construction process for new and large renovation projects for Broward County, excluding airport and port projects. This CPMS position for the new Broward County Government Center, requires a highly trained professional with experience in the oversight and direction of the planning, design and construction of complex capital vertical projects. It is important to note that the percentage of a supervisor's time spent overseeing active construction projects is about 25% to 30% during the lifetime of a project. Accordingly, the ideal candidate should have strong planning and design management ability.
This is an advanced professional and administrative position with supervisory responsibilities in the management of vertical construction projects for the County. This exciting and challenging position will assist the Division Director and Assistant Director in planning, assigning and reviewing the work of a professional staff of Project Managers. This position serves as the lead supervisor on a variety of design and construction projects within the Division. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a high-level project manager in large-scale ($15 million+), vertical construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the planning, programming, design, procurement, documenting and construction administration of projects as well as the oversight of multiple consulting professionals, contractors and others. The top candidate will possess strong communication skills as related to informing direct supervisors, County Administration, and elected officials. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the latest construction methods and technology including Building Information Modeling (BIM), document control programs, and scheduling programs. LEED Accreditation designation and experience are preferred.
Current registration as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer is required at time of application. Architects and Professional Engineers registered in jurisdictions outside of Florida will be considered upon demonstration of the candidate's ability to achieve reciprocal licensure in Florida at the time of hiring.

Manages and monitors construction contractors and consultants; develops, administers and negotiates construction and consultant contracts, master plan studies, amendments, change orders, and work authorizations.
Coordinates stakeholders including user and County agencies: County Attorneys, Purchasing, Small Business Division, Building Departments; FDOT and other regulatory agencies.
Supervises other project managers and engineering technicians; performs reviews and oversight of projects managed by subordinates; reviews plans and specifications, engineering calculations, pay applications, invoices, and Florida Building Code.
