The Opportunity
This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Abbott Structural Heart division.
As the Paralegal, you will work with other paralegals and attorneys in the Commercial Legal Department.
What You’ll Work On
Interfaces with internal clients in preparing commercial agreements, including, but not limited to, contracts & pricing, procurement, and confidential disclosure agreements.
Provides legal services in support of business objectives and resolve matters for assigned responsibilities.
Communicates the advice of the Legal Department to businesses and manage legal risks to the corporation.
Identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matters.
Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts including analysis, drafting, negotiating and consulting.
Resolves routine legal matters in area of responsibility with direct supervision from senior paralegals and/or attorneys.
Develops knowledge of Abbott’s business and client areas supported.
Keeps abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas.
Supports senior paralegals and attorneys on legal agreements or other tasks, as assigned.
Helps maintain agreements in document management systems.
Other responsibilities, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and/or ABA approved Paralegal Certificate or equivalent experience.
3+ years of relevant experience
Must have familiarity with basic laws as related to applicable areas of responsibility.
Experience reviewing agreements/contracts and the ability to interpret and synthesize information from various sources to achieve superior outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented with high work standards.
High level of discretion, maturity and ethical integrity
Excellent communication, interpersonal, proofreading and organizational skills, with a focus on continuous process improvement
Ability to multi-task, work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, proactively thinking through challenges and coming up with pragmatic workable solutions.
