This technical administrative role supports the County Zoning, Planning & Land Information Department and the Land Conservation Department serving as the initial person interacting with the public regarding potentially confidential issues related to the department. This position administratively supports all aspects of the departments. The ideal candidate is a great communicator who enjoys working in an environment where attention to detail is important and problem-solving skills will be used. This is a full-time, in-person, position working Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Pay range starts at $19.56 and progresses to $24.05/hr

Manages the organization, preparation, packets and public notices for the Planning, Resources & Development, the Board of Adjustment, and the Economic Development Fund meetings. Prepares public hearing notices for newspaper publication and to send to property owners.

Enters data to track information on permits, plan reviews, code enforcement for building permits.

Assists in the intake of zoning submissions and other tasks related to Permit Review.

Performs a variety of customer service duties including answering and directing telephone calls, responding to routine questions from the public, and assisting applicants with the preparation of and status of Land Development and Zoning applications.

Assists in establishing data preparation standards and procedures to ensure data standardization and integrity and to optimize section productivity.

Reviews, accepts and processes permit applications and documents, assesses permitting fees, and provides receipts for fees paid.

Assists applicants with forms and technical questions related to the permit process.

Assist with application intake for economic development loan and grant programs.

Assists with economic development prospect packets and responses.

Maintains databases for Economic Development functions.

Maintains the department website, provides input, and works with IT on any necessary updates.

Maintains records inventory and follows procedures for records management and storage.

Maintains a variety of GIS layers and databases including street, parcel, subdivision, and utility data while adhering to organizational quality standards.

Operates and maintains data input/output devices.

Assists staff and the public in person, via telephone and email.

Utilizes a variety of computer programs and databases to create PowerPoint presentations, to create locator maps, to maintain project databases, and to prepare reports and informational packets.

Assists in post-approval/disapproval/denial processing of Department files.

Processes departmental invoices for payment.

RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintains and updates department records and files.

Assists in preparing graphic designs, charts, and spreadsheets for reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of public administration and urban planning practices and procedures. Knowledge of customer service and public relations practices and procedures. Knowledge of County policies, procedures, and development codes. Proficiency in Microsoft programs and mapping programs such as PowerPoint and ArcMap.

Ability to provide exceptional customer service skills both internally and externally.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Skill in effective oral and written communications. Skill in following and implementing departmental procedures and objectives. Skill in organization with the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously.

Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze maps, exhibits, legal descriptions, plats, and site plans.

Training, Experience and Other Requirements

High School Diploma with 30 semester hours of college-level courses in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Economic Development, Environmental Studies, or related field and four (4) years' experience in municipal government or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
