GENERAL SUMMARY

Assists the Principal in the overall administration of the school. Assists the Principal with planning, schedules, supervision of students and all other duties as assigned. Reports to the Principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)Serves as principal in the absence of the Principal.Receives discipline referrals and addresses the issues with student behavior according to District policy. Communicates with parents and teachers when students are referred to the office. Maintains data and records when disciplinary actions are taken.Ensures that all students and parents have a copy of the School's Discipline Plan.Presents the discipline plan to school staff, teachers and parents and the start of the school year, and again mid-year.Receives and handles concerns related to school discipline.Reviews and revises the School Discipline plan annually.Shares data on referrals for discipline and works with staff to address concerns with the plans and student behavior.Performs record-keeping as the Principal may direct.Effectively directs the administration and coordination of transportation, custodial, food services and other support services as assigned by the Principal.Assists all school personnel in the improvement of the school program and in fulfilling assigned duties. Demonstrates the ability to provide competent staff leadership and supervision of school level instructional staff.Creates, implements and monitors a school traffic plan to keep students safe as they arrive at school and as they are dismissed from school.Monitors hallways and student bathrooms. Monitors recess times and break times.Creates the bus duty schedule.Is effective in administrating high standards for student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to the due process rights of the students. Actively participates in the management and supervision of attendance and health of all students.Assists with the preparation of school schedules, class schedules, student assignments and extra-curricular activities. Assists in the supervision and evaluation of the school's extra-curricular programs.Assists the principal in the selection, training/orientation and supervision of school staff, and assists with staff and teacher evaluations.Provides for the placement of students. Arranges services for students identified as needing additional assistance.Inspects the school facility as requested, recommends improvements and takes steps to correct identified deficiencies as assigned; provides a safe environment for students and school personnel.Provides appropriate assistance in the safety and administration of the school site helping to plan and supervise fire drills, bus evacuation drills, and the emergency preparedness program.Manages the business functions of the school relative to purchasing procedures and the monitoring of expenditures.Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for all students. Solicits support for school programs.Reads, attends conferences and workshops to be aware of the best practices to improve student behavior.Presents a positive image of the Jasper County School District at all times.Interacts with others in a respectful and cooperative manner at all times.Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

MUST have a South Carolina Professional Leadership Certificate with the endorsement for principal or supervisor at the appropriate school level. Master's degree or higher with at least five years of experience as a classroom teacher and at least two years of experience in public school administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Bilingual (English or Spanish) Preferred.

Knowledge:

Knowledge in the development, planning, organization, implementation and management of the total school program and practices designed to meet educational objectives and requirements. Knowledge of the standards, regulations, and laws relating to educational activities. Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to the school.

Skills/Effort:

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school and district staff. Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice. Ability to complete, process, and maintain required records, reports, and other information. Ability to develop and maintain effective communications with school and district employees, the school principal, and the general public. Ability to operate general office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier, etc.

Working Conditions:

School environment with little significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to school activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 10 pounds. Occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel required.Assists with the supervision of school staff and students.

Travel Requirements:Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
