The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.

Job SummaryThe Supervisor, AV Services provide onsite technical support and operation of AV, sound, lighting, video and staging for all Student Union facilities, meetings and event-related business and other indoor/outdoor campus locations. Under general supervision of the Manager, AV Services provides training, guidance and leadership to both full time and student assistant audio visual technicians.

Essential Functions and Tasks

Assists in the coordination of day-to-day event requirements from start to completion for the Student Union, Event Center and activities throughout the SJSU campus.Assists in the hiring, training and supervision of full-time non-exempt hourly staff and student assistants.Coordinates development and administration of audio visual and safety, customer service training.Schedules and coordinates staffing needs, technical requirements and production of events in various facilities including ballrooms, meeting rooms, SU Theater, and indoor/outdoor areas of the campus.Serves as AV Technician for high profile events as determined by the Manager, AV Services and will serve as back up AV Technician when AV staffing for events is not filled.Provides or coordinates maintenance and repair of all technical production equipment.Assists Audio Visual Production Manager and Assistant Manager with development of cost estimates for campus and non-campus events as needed.Maintains AV equipment inventory and supply records for all technical needs.Recommends audio visual equipment purchases to support changing needs of AV equipment trends and requirements for these trends.Assist Student Union Event Services team members in supporting all special event programs and services.Assist SU Operations team in the implementation of the protocols for safety, security building patrons during SU building events.Participates in meetings as needed for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.Assist the Director of Facilities to report maintenance concerns and damage to equipment and resources.Works with SUI Student Success and Assessment team to ensures learning outcomes are developed and assessed annually for the student staff.Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as an outdoors and indoor facility program-oriented environment.The physical demands of this position are described below

The position works a schedule based on business needs 7 a.m. - 11 p.m., Monday - Friday, will work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including long and/or irregular hoursMinimum Qualifications*

Requires an Associate of Arts, Science or General Studies degree a related field of studyRequires at least (1) year of experience in event venue sound, lighting and video systems preferably in a university setting.Two (2) year or more of supervisory experience.Current CPR/First Aid and AED certifications required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.Scissor and Fork/High Lift certification during first six months of employment.Preferred Qualifications**
